About the Program

At Behavior Genius, we believe in using play and purpose to build stronger communities. Our Social Skills Basketball Program combines teamwork, movement, and mentorship to help youth strengthen communication, cooperation, and confidence through the game of basketball. This program is designed for children with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges who benefit from structured peer interaction and positive role modeling.

Position Summary

The Basketball Coach facilitates weekly group sessions focused on basketball fundamentals while embedding social skills instruction such as teamwork, emotional regulation, and sportsmanship. The ideal candidate is patient, energetic, and passionate about helping every child succeed — on and off the court.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead group basketball sessions that promote teamwork, communication, and positive peer interaction.

  • Adapt drills and activities to meet varying ability levels and social-emotional needs of participants.

  • Collaborate with Behavior Genius clinical staff to integrate social skills goals into basketball activities.

  • Model and reinforce appropriate social behaviors such as turn-taking, encouragement, and managing frustration.

  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all participants.

  • Communicate progress, challenges, and achievements to program leadership.

  • Ensure all equipment is used safely and returned after each session.

  • Attend program orientation and periodic training on behavior support and inclusion practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience coaching basketball, mentoring youth, or leading group recreational activities.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children and parents.

  • Ability to model patience, empathy, and professionalism at all times.

  • Preferred: Background in sports/basket ball coaching, education, ABA, recreation.

  • Must pass background check  prior to working with participants.

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Sessions typically run [1 days per week,2 hours per session].

  • Compensation: Starting at $18-22/hour (based on experience).
