Overview
AFL is seeking a Sustainability Specialist to support our growing global sustainability program, driven by rising customer expectations, evolving regulatory requirements, and AFL's commitment to responsible business practices. This role will play a key part in advancing our environmental sustainability goals-overseeing the day-to-day management of sustainability data systems while also supporting energy efficiency and carbon reduction efforts across AFL's operations.
This is an opportunity to be a core member of AFL's sustainability team-working cross-functionally to ensure accurate, credible environmental data and meaningful progress toward company sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Data & Software Management
- Oversee environmental sustainability data (e.g., energy use, GHG emissions, water, waste) entered into AFL's tracking platforms from various sources. Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and readiness for internal and external reporting.
- Coordinate with internal teams to respond to customer and other stakeholder requests.
- Support data quality control and preparation for third-party assurance.
Energy Efficiency & Site Support
- Partner with facilities, operations, and engineering teams to track and support energy efficiency and carbon reduction projects.
- Help standardize site-level environmental sustainability KPIs, data collection methods, and reporting processes aligned with sustainability goals.
Product Sustainability Support
- Gather raw material and manufacturing data to support lifecycle assessments (LCA) and environmental product declarations (EPDs).
- Collaborate with Procurement, Engineering, and Packaging teams to integrate sustainability into product and packaging development.
- Help build and maintain centralized product sustainability data libraries.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Support regular touchpoints and communication between sustainability, operations, business units, and customer account teams.
- Assist with implementation and follow-up of corporate sustainability initiatives across departments and sites.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Business or a related technical field.
- 1-3 years of professional experience in sustainability, ESG reporting, energy management, or a related area.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with experience in data collection, data cleaning, and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Additional preferred qualifications:
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification or eligibility (must meet degree requirements to obtain CEM).
- Experience managing GHG inventory systems, energy tracking platforms, or other environmental data software.
