College and Career Readiness Instructor Job Description

For the past 10 years, TEACH has been supporting students 1-on-1 and in small group settings with exceptional academic, test prep, and enrichment lessons. Our strong connections to local schools and non-profit organizations offer unique opportunities for tutors to be classroom instructors in addition to providing local families with 1-on-1 support. At TEACH we believe tutoring can be a bridge that helps make content more accessible for all students. 

We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic educators who are ready to dismantle educational barriers that students and families face and open up educational opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engaging and culturally responsive lessons focused on the college application process or modify provided curriculum materials to meet students' needs
  • Connect with students from diverse backgrounds and educational experiences to maximize their academic potential and to help them achieve their post-secondary goals
  • Support a caseload of up to 10 students from the Franklin Institute's STEM Scholars program on their college, trade school, or military application, FAFSA, and scholarship applications
  • Co-teach up to 60 hours of instruction for high school seniors focused on college readiness, including:
    • Five rounds of one-on-one meetings for each student with their advisor to allow for the most personalized college readiness experience possible.
      • To encourage active family involvement and participation, two of these rounds will be organized for students and their families. Families will get every question answered about college list building, college fit, financial aid, cost of college, final decision-making, and more!
    • TEACH will also provide two 2-hour workshops per year for Freshmen and Sophomores to cover a variety of topics including: resume writing, college admissions, ACT crash course, career explorations etc.
  • Participate in pre-launch meeting, kick off, Trunk party, end of the year retrospective meeting and monthly check ins
  • Monitor student progress detail through a variety of ways including but not limited to: observations, 1:1 student check-ins, exit tickets, and by administering pre- and post-assessments 
  • Document student progress and lesson notes in a punctual manner, with attention to detail, and with strict confidence in maintaining security and privacy using TEACH's tracking system in Google Drive and our internal database 
  • Send follow up notes to students, program liaisons, TEACH team members and parents if needed

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university 
  • 1-2 years of professional college counseling experience
  • Interest in working with TEACH for 1+ years 
  • Available to teach online on Zoom on Tuesdays during the school year from 5:00-6:30PM
  • Available to travel locally to the Franklin Institute for in-person lessons on Thursdays during the school year from 5:00-6:30PM
  • Ability to complete federal and PA state background checks and clearances  
  • A self starter with a solution-oriented mindset

Preferred Qualifications 

  • A masters in education and/or counseling
  • Experience teaching high school college readiness seminars
  • Understanding of FAFSA and competitive scholarships like the Questbridge, Posse and Gates Scholarship

Compensation

  • $100/hr pay for student sessions, 1 hour of prep for every 3 hours of tutoring, paid at $25/hour, and $25/hr for meetings
