Job Summary:

Manage the day-to-day operation of all system public relations efforts, including news media relations, social media and crisis communications. Ensure St. Elizabeth wins in the earned media space. Responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating the development of proactive and reactive media and communications plans, pitching news stories, responding to media inquiries, writing news releases/talking points/position statements, creating and maintaining relationships with stakeholders such as news media and other key influencers, crisis communications planning and execution. Oversees St. Elizabeth's social media community management and collaborates with partners in marketing and digital communications to generate engaging social media content.

Job Description:

  • Oversee all PR initiatives working closely with key stakeholders across the organization teams to ensure the greatest earned value is achieved for St. Elizabeth.
  • Manage the implementation of public relations/communications plans. Identify opportunities to highlight the system's key initiatives, culture and people.
  • Cultivate and build relationships with key influencers and media representatives.
  • Write interesting and effective news releases, prepare information for media kits, and develop information as needed for Internet/Intranet.
  • Establish effective proactive news release and media pitch protocol.
  • Be a primary spokesperson for the organization including training leaders on how to respond to news media.
  • Oversee social media community management.
  • Collaborate with digital communications and marketing team to create engaging social media content and to identify and execute campaigns with social media influencers.
  • Assign, supervise and review the activities of the Coordinator, Social Media.
  • Edit and review PR/communication projects regularly.
  • Manage the PR budget and oversee the relationship with related external vendors such as the PR agency or content development agency.
  • Develop and execute contracts and statements of work.
  • Manage organization's crisis communication efforts.
  • Oversee crisis communications plan and template development.
  • Coordinate regular crisis communications exercises.
  • Integrate crisis communications with broader organizational disaster response efforts.
  • Manage a team to provide 24/7 media and social media coverage.
  • Develop relationships with key regional partners to further support crisis communications planning.
  • Execute communications activities during crisis situations.
  • Serve as lead spokesperson when needed.
  • Prepare reports and participate in after-action evaluations.
  • Work closely with service line leaders and marketing teams to assess long and short-range goals/objectives of the organization based on market research and marketing plans.
  • Provide analysis of media relations and communications effectiveness with how to make earn media value bigger and better.
  • Evaluate advertising and promotion programs for compatibility with public relations efforts.
  • Partner closely with community relations and marketing teams to help manage special events such as sponsorships, events introducing new services or facilities, or other activities designed to gain public attention through the media without advertising directly.
  • Performs other functions as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field.

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment, excellent writing skills, experience in developing marketing and public relations plans, familiarity with layout, editing, photography and graphic design, excellent customer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Kind and Length of Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive marketing communications and public relations experience.
