Position Overview: Senior HR Business Partner

The Minnesota Star Tribune is seeking a collaborative and experienced Senior HR Business Partner to join our dynamic HR team.

In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees across departments including the newsroom, sales, advertising, marketing, finance, IT, and product. You'll provide strategic HR support and guidance on a wide range of people-related matters, helping to drive employee engagement, performance, and development.

You Will:

  • Partner with department leaders to support talent strategies, workforce planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Provide day-to-day HR support and coaching to managers and employees on employee relations, performance management, and development.
  • Serve as a consultation partner for leadership on department strategy.
  • Support recruitment efforts for key roles, collaborating with hiring managers and HR colleagues to attract and retain top talent.
  • Assist in the design and development of various roles, teams, and departments throughout the company.
  • Ensure HR policies and practices are applied consistently and in compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Partner with internal and external counsel on immigration-related needs.
  • Contribute to HR projects and initiatives that enhance organizational effectiveness and employee experience.

You Have:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a generalist or business partner capacity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and influence managers and employees.
  • Solid understanding of employment laws, immigration, and HR best practices.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly excel.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field; HR certification (PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred.
  • Experience supporting corporate functions (e.g., marketing, finance, IT) is a plus.

Salary/Wage Range

$85,000 - $100,000 / year

Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
