Job Description

Job Summary:

Gritman Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and organized Certified Nursing Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator (CNA/HUC) to join our Emergency Department team. This unique dual-role position combines hands-on patient care with essential clerical support to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient unit operations. The ideal candidate is adaptable, patient-focused, and committed to delivering exceptional care in a fast-paced environment.

As a CNA, you will assist patients with activities of daily living, support nursing staff with basic patient care, and contribute to the overall safety and comfort of patients. As a Health Unit Coordinator, you'll perform vital administrative duties, such as answering phones, transcribing physician orders, maintaining records, and coordinating communication across the care team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic nursing care under the direction of an RN or LPN

  • Assist patients with bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility, toileting, and repositioning

  • Observe and report changes in patient conditions to nursing staff

  • Support the nursing team in executing the patient care plan

  • Promote patient safety, dignity, and comfort

  • Answer telephones, relay messages, and facilitate communication between departments

  • Transcribe and enter provider orders into the computer system accurately

  • Prepare, update, and maintain patient medical records

  • Ensure adequate office and unit supplies are available

  • Support timely and efficient patient flow through the emergency department

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of an approved nursing assistant course

  • Certified and registered on the Idaho State Nursing Assistant registry (in good standing)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain at next available class)

  • Ability to maintain core competencies for both CNA and HUC responsibilities within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a hospital or emergency department setting is a plus

  • Strong multitasking and time-management skills in high-stress environments

Functional Demands:

  • Serve patients of all ages and backgrounds, including those with physical and cognitive impairments

  • Physically demanding role requiring frequent lifting, pushing, kneeling, and prolonged standing

  • High-risk environment with exposure to infectious diseases and unpredictable clinical situations

  • Requires keen hearing, vision, and fine motor skills
