Job Description
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) has a simple mission: Care. No Matter What. PPLM has been a leader in promoting sexual health for more than 90 years and we strongly believe that all people deserve care no matter who they are, where they live, or who they love. As the state’s leading provider of sexual and reproductive health services, we educate families and empower youth to make responsible choices. We do all this because we care passionately about helping people lead healthier lives.
With more than 600 health centers across the country, Planned Parenthood organizations serve all patients with care and compassion, with respect, and without judgment, striving to create equitable access to health care. Through health centers, programs in schools and communities, and online resources, Planned Parenthood is a trusted source of reliable education and information that allows people to make informed health decisions.
The Vice President of Development is a key member of the Executive Team responsible for leading a bold, forward-thinking, and values-aligned fundraising strategy at a time of dynamic change and opportunity for PPLM. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the VP of Development oversees the full spectrum of development efforts, major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, institutional giving, and donor engagement, to sustain and grow philanthropic revenue for one of Massachusetts’ most trusted and mission-driven healthcare organizations.
This leader will guide and support a high-performing team while building the foundation for PPLM’s next era of fundraising growth, rooted in a culture of learning, resilience, equity, and impact. The VP of Development will also play a critical external-facing role, cultivating meaningful relationships with donors and partners to advance PPLM’s mission amid shifting political, philanthropic, and public health landscapes.

- Partner with the President & CEO to define and execute a long-term development strategy that aligns with PPLM’s strategic goals, revenue needs, and external environment.
- Maintain and grow a portfolio of high-level major gift donors, including direct solicitation and stewardship.
- Oversee the design and execution of all donor communications and fundraising campaigns, including direct mail, email appeals, impact reports, and the Annual Report.
- Ensure the continued growth and strategic direction of the Major Gifts program, providing coaching and accountability for gift officers.
- Provide leadership for signature fundraising events, including the Celebration of Choices gala and donor house parties, ensuring both impact and return on investment.
- Supervise and mentor the Associate Director of Development Operations and other department leaders, fostering a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
- Actively engage and support the Development Committee of the Board and other volunteers, helping to build a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
- Ensure all fundraising practices are ethical, data-informed, DEI-aligned, and fully compliant with regulatory and privacy standards.
- Serve as a visible ambassador for PPLM, representing the organization at donor meetings, community events, and external forums.
- Collaborate with other senior leaders across PPLM to ensure fundraising strategies are well-integrated with programmatic, communications, and policy goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Deep personal and professional commitment to PPLM’s mission, vision, and values, including reproductive freedom, health equity, and justice.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in fundraising, with a strong track record in major gifts and campaign leadership.
- Proven experience managing and developing high-performing teams in fast-paced, mission-driven environments.
- Demonstrated success working with and inspiring senior leadership, board members, and external partners.
- Exceptional communication, storytelling, and relationship-building skills; comfortable representing the organization publicly and with major donors.
