Network Engineer

POSITION PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for designing and maintaining Activar's network infrastructure and equipment. The Network Engineer will ensure the stability and security of our network systems, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with other teams to optimize network performance.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Design and configure network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, SDWAN, VoIP, and VPN.
• Maintain network equipment to ensure they are up to date and provide optimal performance.
• Implement and manage network security. Manage firewall access rules, router access lists, and VLAN segmentation.
• Diagnose and resolve network related issues.
• Maintain and improve network monitoring solutions.
• Document problems and solutions in corporate ticketing system.
• Maintain thorough network documentation.
• Work with internal staff, vendors and other key stakeholders to support any business initiatives.
• Manage relationship with Internet Providers.
• Provide redundancy to critical assets and provide disaster recovery plans to minimize outages or downtime.
• Occasionally assist in other areas of technology support such as Windows Server management and Windows Desktop management.
• Assist in managing the Virtual Server (Nutanix AHV) environment.
• Keep informed of emerging technologies.
• Adhere to all company standards and policies.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner in accordance with company guidelines.
• Light travel is required within the Minneapolis metro area, with standard mileage reimbursement.
• Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Hardware knowledge of SonicWall Firewalls or currently released next-generation firewalls, Cisco Routers, Dell Switches, UniFi Switches, and UniFi Access Points.
• Knowledge of Cybersecurity principles and tools.
• Familiarity with VoIP support.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems, Windows 10/11 and Windows Server environments.
• Familiarity with service desk software and procedures pertaining to the IT service lifecycle.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Tenacity in overcoming obstacles while maintaining productive and positive working relationships.
• Ability to execute in a rapidly changing fast-paced environment that requires strong teamwork.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

• 5+ years of experience in a network support role.
• Cisco Certifications (CCNA); CCNP Preferred.
• Experience with network protocols, Vlans, Spanning Tree, port aggregation, DHCP
• Experience with dynamic routing protocols, OSPFv2, OSPFv3.
• Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent.

Preferred:

• Knowledge of network security best practices.
• Skills in managing virtual server environment.
• Ability to provide technical support for Windows desktops and related software.
• Experience with virtualization environments.
• Experience with Linux.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent.
• Experience in a multi-location corporation/distributed networking environment.

Starting annual salary range: $80,000 - $110,000
