Job Description
Job Summary:
Gritman Medical Center is seeking a dedicated X-ray Technologist to join our Radiology Diagnostic team. The ideal candidate will perform routine radiographic procedures and provide high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include positioning and handling patients with professionalism and safety, performing radiographic exams according to departmental protocols, and assisting radiologists as needed. The X-ray Technologist will ensure proper radiation protection, maintain equipment, and contribute to a positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Maintain a high quality of patient care; position and handle patients with professionalism, ethics, care, tact, courtesy, patience, and safety.
Greet and introduce yourself to patients, explaining the nature and time requirements of requested exams.
Assist in moving patients to and from wheelchairs, carts, and radiographic tables.
Radiographic Procedures:
Perform all routine radiographic procedures and views according to departmental procedures and policies.
Adjust technical factors proportionally to the patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation exposure.
Provide radiation protection to patients, staff, and self according to prescribed safety standards.
Surgical and Portable Exams:
Perform surgical and portable exams as assigned or needed.
Practice sterile techniques and prevent cross-contamination to patients and instruments.
Set up special trays and utilize the time-out procedure.
Equipment and Technology:
Demonstrate complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment in the department.
Work effectively with our Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
Assist radiologists in administering prescribed radiolucent or radiopaque contrast media for exams.
Administrative Duties:
Perform office procedures in the absence of clerical personnel.
Retrieve exams and reports as needed according to departmental policies.
Check orders for history and special instructions; furnish radiologists with patient's history on assessment forms and complete all necessary paperwork.
Departmental Responsibilities:
Keep rooms and work areas neat and orderly; maintain and rotate supplies and inventory.
Organize, plan, and direct activities relating to patients and procedures for designated areas.
Identify problems and communicate with the imaging services leader or clinical coordinator; offer solutions as appropriate.
Attend departmental meetings, staff in-service education, and training programs.
Professional Development:
Show willingness to learn new and different techniques and imaging modalities (e.g., CT, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Angiography).
Promote good interpersonal relationships within the department and hospital.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training at an ARRT-approved school.
Eligible to meet the requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Must obtain ARRT registration within 6 months of hire date.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of radiographic procedures and equipment.
Ability to adjust technical factors for optimal imaging while minimizing radiation exposure.
Excellent patient care and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with radiologists and the healthcare team.
Proficiency with PACS and other imaging software is preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Assist in moving patients, which may require physical exertion.
- Visual and auditory acuity to perform duties effectively.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Work Environment:
- Clinical setting with exposure to radiation.
- Regular contact with patients under various circumstances.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must adhere to safety protocols to minimize risk.
- Occasional exposure to chemicals used for sterilization of equipment.
