Job Description

Location: Richmond, VA

The Prevention & Response Specialist will play a key role in insuring we are responsive to reports of possible abuse and harassment, providing guidance and care in the areas of abuse prevention and response, and reviewing and assessing volunteer applications from individuals and churches.

Responsibilities:

  • Review short-term volunteer applications flagged for additional screening and conduct follow-up interviews and reference checks to determine eligibility for service

  • Present recommendations for approval or denial of applicants to senior leadership, in coordination with the Director

  • Support the Director in providing follow-up care for personnel and in developing educational materials focused on abuse prevention and ongoing care

  • Oversee the church vetting process, ensuring applications are submitted, thoroughly reviewed, and followed up on as needed

  • Collaborate with field personnel and the Director of Abuse Prevention & Response Administration to ensure all procedures are accurately and efficiently completed

  • Assist in managing the intake process for reports submitted to the Abuse Prevention & Response Office

  • Evaluate safety procedures at prospective schools for TCK's to ensure compliance with organizational safety standards

  • Review crisis reports from Field Personnel Deployment and assess for compliance with mandated reporting laws

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field, preferred

  • 1-3 years of professional experience in human resources, social work, counseling or a comparable role

  • Previous IMB missionary experience, preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to initiate and engage in sensitive conversations

  • Trauma-informed approach with an understanding of how to interact with individuals affected by abuse or other traumatic experiences

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while maintaining a high level of direction and professionalism

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time
