About this Position

The water Plant Mechanic I performs work of a mechanical and manual nature involving preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance and/or operation of water and wastewater treatment and sewage pumping equipment. Mechanic must be willing to periodically perform standby and callback duties and be available for on-call status during off duty hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent

• 2 years of related experience and/or training

• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Valid Class "B" Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License (or be able to obtain within one year)

• Driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance procedures on various equipment

• Document maintenance efforts and the materials and supplies used

• Complete housekeeping tasks, including painting equipment and appurtenances

• Maintain inventory and order needed parts, tools, materials and supplies

• Perform corrective maintenance procedures on equipment

• Develop and track the equipment use schedule

• Rotate mechanical equipment as needed

• Work with in-house and external service providers, contractors, and vendors

• Assist with and/or perform any specialized projects or assignments as delegated by the supervisor

• Obtain temporary water and wastewater operator licenses within ten (10) days

• Obtain both the water and wastewater operator Class "D" licenses within one (1) year

Necessary Skills

• Ability and willingness to periodically perform standby and callback duties
• Availability for on-call status during off duty hours
• Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
• Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug, physical, pulmonary function, and audio screenings
