Job Description:

Lucid Motors is seeking a highly skilled Stamping Simulation Engineer to join our Closures Team. This role will be responsible for conducting AutoForm stamping simulations to evaluate the manufacturability of Closures sheet metal parts, optimize processes, and ensure production feasibility within the constraints of stamping equipment and material utilization. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in AutoForm, stamping processes, and Class A surface evaluation, material selection within the automotive sector, along with a good understanding of Die designs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and execute quick and efficient production-intent AutoForm simulations to analyze formability, manufacturability, surface aesthetic, and Springback of Closures sheet metal parts
  • Conduct DFM (Design for Manufacturing) studies to assess the feasibility of sheet metal components for production.
  • Assist in material selection based on forming characteristics and production feasibility.
  • Evaluate Class A surfaces, ensuring adherence to aesthetic and functional criteria.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design, Manufacturing, and Die Engineering, to optimize sheet metal designs.
  • Intermediate level or higher understanding of die designs, ensuring compatibility with stamping equipment and best practices.
  • Identify potential manufacturing constraints, including material utilization, tooling limitations, and process inefficiencies.
  • Support the development of countermeasures for identified risks and propose design modifications where necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in AutoForm stamping simulation software.
  • Strong technical proficiency in AutoForm setup and optimization.
  • Deep understanding of Class A surface evaluation criteria.
  • Experience within the automotive industry, preferably in closures or BIW (Body-in-White) engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of various stamping manufacturing processes, including blanking, draw dies, hemming, and restriking.
  • Familiarity with stamping die designs and tooling development.
  • Ability to assess manufacturability of sheet metal parts considering equipment limitations and material utilization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with BIW structures and closures development.
  • Hands-on experience working with tooling suppliers and die manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in stamping feasibility studies.
