Job Description
What You'll Do:
In the BMS Test & Integration Engineer role, you will integrate software and hardware designs for Archer's high voltage battery management and charging systems and verify its functionality - enabling the use of electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft for urban air mobility.
Specifically, you will
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for BMS hardware, software, and full system integration-covering everything from component‑level diagnostics to aircraft‑level validation.
- Champion integration activities, coordinating with system and software teams to define interfaces, data‑exchange requirements, and integration test procedures for ground and flight tests.
- Build and maintain test fixtures, harnesses, and bench setups that mimic real‑world aircraft conditions; automate test sequences where possible to accelerate regression testing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cross‑domain issues, working hands‑on in the lab with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, environmental chambers, and network analyzers to isolate root causes across hardware, firmware, and software layers.
- Analyze CAN data logs to understand software functionality
- Maintain traceability between requirements, design artifacts, and test results; generate clear reports and data packages to support certification and design reviews.
- Collaborate closely with powertrain, and systems integration teams to plan hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) and full‑system integration events, and participate in flight‑test support as needed.
What You Need:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Proven experience in hardware and software integration testing-ideally in automotive, aerospace, or other safety‑critical industries
- Strong ability to read and debug schematics, circuit layouts, and firmware drivers to identify and resolve interface mismatches or signal integrity issues
- Knowledge of schematic design and PCB layout
- Hands‑on proficiency with mechanical assembly (crimping, soldering, connector systems) and electrical instrumentation (DMM, scope, logic analyzer, network analyzer, etc.)
- Familiarity with microcontroller peripheral interfaces, including SPI, CAN, UART, and their related debugging tools
- Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python) for test automation, data analysis, and fixture control
- Experience with requirement‑management and test‑management tools (e.g.,Polarion, JIRA)
- Excellent organizational skills, clear written and verbal communication, and a collaborative mindset-able to work across hardware, firmware, and systems teams
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with high voltage battery systems
- Experience with new product development in regulated industries (e.g., aviation, medical devices)
- Experience with DO-178C software verification and ARP4754 development process
- Experience with ISO 26262, ISO 15118, and SAE J1772 standards
- Experience with dSPACE, Vector CAN tools, LabView, IOT
