Job Description

The Benefits Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefits programs across multiple properties. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and property policies, practices, and procedures.

Specific Job Functions:

  • Create and maintain a work environment which promotes teamwork, performance, feedback, recognition, mutual respect, and employee satisfaction. Ensure departmental practices are compliant with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Maintain and manage effective relationships with benefit carriers, brokers, wellness, and other benefits-related vendors.
  • Oversee the assigned operational functions within the department consistent with the strategic plan and vision for the department, the division, and the property.
  • Effectively develop and mentor Benefits/Leave Administrators to ensure all departmental standards and goals are understood and met.
  • Design and implement creative benefit and wellness programs-including Wellness Fairs, Open Enrollment, and related events-to enhance employee morale and engagement.
  • Provide support, input, and guidance to properties' wellness programs and contribute to the overall wellness strategy.
  • Provide wellness communications for eligible employees.
  • Establish employee eligibility, coverage, effective date, and premium payment responsibility for enrolled and benefits eligible employees.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain data accuracy in the benefits administration platform (bswift), ensuring alignment with the HRIS (UKG Pro).
  • Review and approve employees' information for benefit purposes such as Qualifying Event, address/name/beneficiary changes in the benefits administration platform.
  • Generate, retain, and review enrollment confirmations for accuracy, including monthly premiums and retroactive charges.
  • Resolve employee concerns in a timely manner by thoroughly researching and investigating the issue(s) and reporting the findings back to the employee.
  • Follow up with employees regarding dependent eligibility documentation (e.g., full-time status) or to coordinate COBRA coverage for eligible dependents.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of backup records related to employee benefits enrollment and termination, in accordance with documentation and audit requirements.
  • Review and process all Short Term / Long Term Disability and Life claims.
  • Resolve payroll-related benefit issues and assist with the reconciliation of bi-weekly and monthly billing with Payroll, General Ledger, and Finance to ensure timely payments to all carriers.
  • Verify benefit information as requested, from a multitude of agencies, such as Medicare to determine employees' benefit eligibility status for various purposes.
  • Remain current on related laws, regulations, and practices affecting benefits.
  • Assist with responsibilities at the Employee Services Department.
  • Plan events, book rooms, create room layout and oversee event execution.
  • Conduct New Hire Orientation sessions as needed, ensuring new employees are effectively onboarded into the benefits program.
  • Perform all duties as deemed necessary for the success of the department.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years leave management, benefits, and/or human resources experience.
  • Bachelor's degree Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), Military Family Leave Act, and Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of government regulations.
  • Experience with the bswift or any benefit administration program a plus.
  • The ability to demonstrate independence in work related projects necessary and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Able to present material in an enthusiastic way.
  • Must have professional demeanor and able to communicate effectively to all level of employees.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required.
