Assistant Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE)

 

Role Mission: The mission of the Assistant Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) is to increase the adoption and expansion of CTE programming for Texas schools; envision guidelines and procedures for fiscal responsibility as they relate to procurement; and create protocols for Career & Technical Student Organization travel and field experiences for CTE. Working in a highly distributed charter environment, the Assistant Director of CTE will assist current Director of CTE creating, communicating, and auditing criteria for success with stakeholders from various teams. The Assistant Director of CTE will manage a portfolio of CTE Curriculum Managers who design and development course materials for a program of study.

Location:

This is a full-time hybrid (remote/on-site) position based in Texas with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.  

 

Travel Expectations:

Approximately two times per quarter; commercial air travel may be required

 

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

Essential Duties:

Collaborate with Director of Career & Technical Education in promoting and expanding CTE participation at IDEA Public Schools

  • Provide guidance for successful program implementation including classroom equipment needs, facility updates, and purchasing guidelines.
  • Provide guidance on various facets of CTE programming including PEIMS coding, risk management protocols for student travel, CTE funding and purchasing.
  • Audit CTE classroom facilities/equipment/software/supplies and prioritize purchases based on available budget and need.
  • Request quotes from vendors and follow Finance procedures for CTE purchases.
  • Collaborate with facilities for existing CTE facility upgrades, renovations, or additions.
  • Inspect facilities for TDLR or other state regulation compliance.
  • Keep record of renovations/updates/investments made

Ensure IDEA meets compliance requirements for CTE

  • Review CTE sections for appropriate seat time (45min daily average seat time)
  • Keep records of CTE teacher certifications/licensures and experience relevant to coursework taught and advanced degrees/PD for IBC instruction.
  • Ensure teachers complete TEA training for Math and Science academic courses
  • Include Non-Discriminatory statements in all CTE marketing material and printed materials in external communication
  • Train, review, and audit students records for Age/Drug Screening/Vaccination/Background checks required for relevant IBCs
  • Submit IBC records for Perkins V (track student demographics and attempted/pass/fail records) and record submissions using PEIMS data.
  • Analyze student enrollment data for non-traditional participation
  • Work closely with the Student Information Systems team to ensure appropriate course coding and adherence to scheduling requirements is met
  • Partner with Facilities to review instructional spaces for ADA compliance

Assist CTE Director with budget expenditures, amendment processing, and PR reviews.

  • Communicate allotment responsibilities, deadlines, and resources for appropriate use of CTE funding to campus leadership and business staff.
  • Assist Director of CTE with PR reviews on a weekly basis, ensuring expenditures are compliant and spending is on track
  • Process budget amendments as requested by Director of CTE

Organize Career & Technical Student Organization expansion at IDEA Public Schools

  • Consolidate calendar or events for CTSO Leadership and competitive events
  • Collaborate with Director of CTE to create and review guidelines for CTSO participation & competition advancement.
  • Assist campus personnel with CTSO travel across regions/states
  • Consolidate data on CTSO participation and wins
  • Review CTSO sponsor/coordinator requests forms and approvals for stipend participation.
  • Track CTSO Sponsor/Coordinator stipend payouts

 

Lead the development, adoption, and implementation of curricula for the IDEA programs of study

  • Manage a team of Curriculum Managers to design and deliver curriculum materials for individual courses, including Long-Term Plans and unit plans.
  • Manage a team of Curriculum Managers to create, edit, and refine assessments so that exams are completed with less than 8 combined errors.

 

 

What You Bring – Competencies

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability in secondary school instruction and leadership
  • Demonstrated ability as a school-level or district-level leader
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the state guidelines for CTE funding
  • Knowledge of budget processing
  • Knowledge of the state approved Programs of Study
  • Knowledge of Career & Technical Student Organization participation guidelines
  • Knowledge of Perkins Grant requirements and Data Monitoring components
  • Knowledge of the state approved Industry Based Certification and teacher certification/licensure requirements.

 

Required experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or advanced degree preferred; Educator Certification
  • A minimum of three years supervisory experience in Career & Technical Education
  • Experience coordinating CTSO travel and reviewing participation guidelines
  • Experience working with facility teams to renovate/update/build CTE classrooms
  • A strong record of student achievement results as a teacher and/or school administrator
  • A strong record of results as a program designer or system-wide administrator

 

Preferred experience:

  • Master’s degree or advanced degree preferred

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds at times
  • Ability to complete periodic travel required for meetings, classroom observations, trainings and conferences.

 

What We Offer:


Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $81,800 and $95,800, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
