Job Description
The Underwriting Consultant plays a key role in managing financial analysis and underwriting for large group customers. In this position, you'll apply underwriting risk and pricing guidelines to develop pricing decisions, assess risks, and project future costs for both new and existing accounts. You will collaborate with Medica Sales to provide pricing rationale and help craft renewal strategies that meet both customer objectives and Medica's financial goals. The role requires a strategic thinker with strong business judgment and a keen understanding of healthcare underwriting in a competitive market.
A successful candidate will bring a strong analytical mindset, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights. They will confidently communicate underwriting strategies to internal and external stakeholders and possess the ability to make sound, independent decisions. Also, demonstrate a collaborative approach to problem-solving, have a solid understanding of healthcare underwriting and pricing methodologies (particularly in the large group market), and be well-versed in competitive market trends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- 5+ years of work experience in underwriting or a related field
- Underwriting experience within the healthcare industry strongly preferred
- Large group pricing experience preferred
- Proficient working with Microsoft Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong relationship building, communication, and organization skills
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally required
- Pricing and RFP experience
This position is a hub-based role which will work primarily remotely but may require some onsite presence. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must reside within a commuting distance to one of the following office locations: Minnetonka, MN or Madison, WI. Onsite frequency is determined by business need as decided by leadership.
The full salary range for this position is $77,100 - $132,200. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for incentive plan compensation in addition to base salary.
