What you bring to the table
Beck is looking for a qualified Senior Field Engineer II to join an extraordinary project team. As a Senior Field Engineer II, you will work with your project team to sequence respective work with associated subcontractors to ensure successful and safe project layout and execution. This position may either exercise direct supervision over Instrument Men, Rodmen, or Field Engineers, or be responsible for directing an assigned segment of a project.
The job involves the following responsibilities:
- Verify and maintain accuracy of measurements and calculations of all physical site dimensions, building layout, and layout for all subcontractor work on large commercial construction projects (Concrete and Steel)
- Interpret construction documents, plans and specifications
- Lead layout and engineering while working with internal team and subcontractors
- Establish control in vertical building construction, stacking and maintaining control lines.
- Manage and motivate workforce while understanding and applying Beck Core Values
- Checking work laid out or completed by others. Communicating conflicts or issues to the project team.
- Discern between high and unacceptable work quality
- Ability to document completed work and prepare for RFI or As-built Records.
- Follow direction, collaborate with all team members, and complete assigned tasks
- Participate in daily team huddles, safety meetings and team events.

You possess uncompromising authenticity and integrity, effective time management skills, a thorough understanding of building construction, and a passion to get things done.
You also meet the following requirements:
8+ years of relevant field engineering experience operating as the Lead Field Engineer AND:
experience as Instrument Man or Rodman with basic safety awareness and supervisory experience.
Possess a high level of understanding construction documents, submittals, RFI's and shop drawings.
Experience with total stations, auto-levels, PLS Lasers, stick rulers, plumb bobs, chalk boxes and conventional construction layout tools.
Fundamental math skills with a good understanding of trigonometry, volume, area and algebra.
Utilize alternative means and methods of layout when modern technology is not available.
Experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica Captivate or Foresight.
Experience using project administration software such as Procore, Plan Grid, Bluebeam, and Revit or comparable construction technologies is a plus.
Essential Functions:
- Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity equipment
- Frequently ascends/descends ladders and stairs to multiple levels
- Access all levels of the building as it ascends, which typically includes many elevations
- Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions
- Frequently moves equipment up to 50Ibs to various locations on site
- Must have ability to constantly move around job site and walk on uneven surfaces such as rebar
- Constantly communicates with subcontractors, vendors, and other members of project team
- Must adhere to consistent and timely attendance
