Montgomery College's Workforce Development and Continuing Education Unit is seeking two full-time Adult Education Instructors to teach in-person for the GED Program at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, a maximum-security facility located in Boyds, Maryland. The work schedule is Monday- Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 25 position.
Under general direction and/or supervision, the incumbent provides instruction in adult basic education as needed in order to (1) pass any of the four sections of the GED exam, including English Language Arts, Social Studies, Math or Science, or (2) develop basic English language skills using established curricula, materials and assessment data. The incumbent in this position plans and delivers instruction targeting learner needs and goals.
Instructors will be expected to complete detailed, daily reports; abide by all College policies and procedures; and abide by all policies and procedures set by the Montgomery County Department of Corrections.
This is a temporary position with benefits funded through June 30, 2026. Employment continuation beyond this period is contingent upon need and funding.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Plan, develop and provide instruction in adult basic education in preparation for the GED Exam or English language skills development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
- Two to three years of experience teaching content areas on GED exam (Science, Mathematics, English Language Arts or Social Studies), English for Speakers of Other Languages, or Special Education.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Education, Special Education or related educational field, or in an area covered on the GED exam: Science, Mathematics, English Language Arts or Social Studies.
- Strong academic background in Science and Math OR English Language Arts and Social Studies.
- Proven ability to deliver high quality, effective GED instruction that meets a range of adult learning needs with a focus on measurable learning outcomes
- Experience working with diverse and at-risk populations, preferably within a correctional or similar institutional setting.
- Ability to provide high-quality instruction within a structured behavior management framework.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsible educational environment.
Hiring Range: $59,887-$77,830 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $95,773.
