Job Description
Job Title: Civil & Construction Engineering - Adjunct Faculty - CE 471 Civil Engineering Writing

Position Start Date: September 3, 2025
Required Degree: MA in English with an emphasis in technical writing, master’s degree in a comparable field, or MS (or PhD) in civil engineering with strong industry writing experience is required.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience: College-level composition teaching experience is preferred.
Duties/Expectations:
Teach CE - Civil Engineering Writing (Fall 2025). Two sections (3 credit hours each) to be covered by one or two adjunct faculty (Taught MW 10 - 11:15 AM; TTh 2 - 3:15 PM.) This course has in-person instruction conducted by the instructor. No labs or breakout groups.
Duties Include:
Instruct students in person during designated class times
Provide office consultations and student mentoring (about 3 hrs per week)
Evaluate student writing
Work with capstone director to coordinate the integration of capstone writing elements into the course.
Adjunct faculty do not attend faculty meetings and are not required to participate in research or citizenship responsibilities.
Course Description: Writing and oral communication in the context of civil engineering projects.
Training: Adjunct faculty may be required to attend training prior to the start of teaching assignment, depending on prior teaching experience and familiarity with BYU’s writing program.
