Job Description
Job Overview: Assists with direction and leadership to team working two different shifts with extensive knowledge operating and maintaining heavy equipment used for commercial processing and composting food and yard waste, off site wood grinding, colored mulch operations, scheduling product deliveries and dumpster services to customers, in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to repair and calibrate all related composting and processing equipment to produce desired product specifications. Works directly with existing customers to help address their needs, provide creative solutions to their problems, and build long-term relationships. Promotes and encourages new businesses to purchase product.
Maximize Your Impact: The Responsibilities You'll Own:
- Assists with direction and leadership to a team operating various types of heavy equipment to perform organics composting, produce colored mulch, and de-packaging food for processing.
- Coordinates with clients and schedules staff for organics collection dumpster services and off- site grinding operations throughout the Metro and Out State area.
- Assists in planning and coordinating the organics processing within Minnesota Pollution Control Agencies regulations.
- Assists to ensure that all OSHA regulated composting site safety procedures are being followed.
- Operates grinders, screeners, loaders, and related equipment to reduce products to optimal particle size for composting and mulch operations.
- Operates a "State of the Art" Aerated Static Pile composting system with 212,500 tons of organic throughput annually.
- Assists and coordinates to properly manage and maintain contact and storm water for the Aerated Static Pile water re-use system.
- Schedules, coordinates, and operates off site wood grinding operations with private and governmental agencies.
- Proficient in all MnDOT 3877 compost and soil blends. Knowledgeable to recommend proper blends and applications to customers and Commercial Contractors.
- Performs and oversees repairs and preventative maintenance on processing equipment.
- Inspects and ensures safety devices are in working order on heavy equipment. Coordinates with Director to schedule repairs, inventory, and stock preventative maintenance parts for equipment.
- May at times provide guidance, support, and motivation to processing operations staff
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Class A Driver's License is required
- 5+ years of experience in solid waste management, composting, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience indirectly leading a team. (may include informal leadership)
- 3+ years' operating a horizontal grinder with a minimum 600.0 HP
- 25% off location work at municipal partner grinding sites. Travel is never overnight, and all sites are within 40 miles of the SMSC, most are closer.
- Experience both operating and overseeing operation of all equipment relevant to the operation of an organics recycling facility including front-end loaders, skid steers, track loaders, grinders, mixers, screeners, semis, cable trucks, de-packagers, and mulch coloring equipment required.
- Experience directing and performing repairs on heavy equipment including daily maintenance, walk-around check, etc.
- Mechanical background required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft software products.
- Strong customer relation skills and ability to follow directions in a team environment.
- This position is subject to testing for drugs (THC included) & alcohol in accordance with the Federal Department of Transportation Regulations as well as the SMSC's Drug / THC and Alcohol Policy.
