Job Description: Manager, Corporate and Foundation Giving
Location: Birmingham, AL

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Birmingham Promise is dedicated to empowering students in Birmingham by providing equitable opportunities for post-secondary success. We are seeking a skilled Manager, Corporate and Foundation Giving, to join our team in achieving our overall development goals. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Manager, Individual and Major Gifts will be responsible for moving individual donors through the entire fundraising cycle, from identification through to stewardship.

This person will be an experienced and effective fundraiser who enjoys strategic yet highly relational donor stewardship. They will be excited about bringing their experience to bear on a young organization with a large budget and a larger mandate. This person will be able to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization's mission.  Endowment experience is a plus; this person will be part of the team that seeks to raise an endowment or scholarship fund for the Birmingham Promise's last-dollar tuition scholarships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Opportunity Development and Stewardship

  • Develop a strategy to identify, cultivate, secure, and steward new and existing corporate and foundation gifts  
  • Ensure our corporate and foundation donors feel a sense of belonging and empowerment through their contributions to Birmingham Promise 
  • Assure our year-over-year retention of key donors
  • Design and operate a robust donor stewardship plan that creates strong, respectful relationships between corporate and foundation donors and Birmingham Promise
  • Specifically create and implement 1-2 corporate and foundation specific donor engagement events or campaigns per year
  • Own overall execution of year-end and other special appeals to corporate and foundation prospects, collaborating with other development and communications staff as needed

Grant Administration

  • Seek to retain and eventually upgrade all existing corporate and foundation gifts through consistent, thoughtful donor communications and stewardship
  • Create and own an up-to-date grants tracker showing our progress and next steps
  • Create our development library of frequent answers and commonly requested forms and documents
  • Write and submit compelling reports in a timely manner and in accordance with our bar for excellence
  • Use fundraising and marketing tools to manage the portfolio, including donor screening tools and our database, Bloomerang
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager for Development Communications to recognize donors publicly and privately through written and graphic outputs
  • Work with the entire Birmingham Promise team to help deliver on fundraising objectives
  • When necessary, create strategic meeting briefs for the Executive Director and others with appropriate objectives, asks, angles, and donor history, as well as listing potential questions from funders and propose potential responses

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and Experience:
    • An undergraduate degree and at least 3 years of professional experience in non-profit fundraising, or 5 years of professional experience in grant writing, corporate fundraising or stewardship without a degree required
    • Clear track record of successful grantwriting and corporate and foundation fundraising required
    • Work experience in fields related to economic mobility, education, and career and college readiness is a plus

  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in a client relationship management system (Bloomerang, Saleforce, etc.), Microsoft Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Drive required
    • Experience with Canva or other graphic design tools for creating materials highly preferred
    • English fluency required

    • Fundraising:
      • You enjoy crafting communications and touchpoints that demonstrate to donors how giving to Birmingham Promise is the best possible investment of their financial support
      • You are comfortable using a donor database, prospect research and other wealth screening tools 
      • You take ownership of a fundraising portfolio and approach managing it with energy and creativity
      • You enjoy thinking creatively about how to get and keep corporate donors invested and involved in our work
      • You are a gifted project manager who moves the corporate and foundations grant portfolio forward with ease
    • Work orientation:
      • You have never missed a deadline for a proposal or a report, and you love gathering lots of information in order to organize it in the way that best suits the donor
      • You are truly a self-starter and are driven by results - and you can demonstrate this through past outcomes
      • You are organized and detail-oriented, and always prepared for your work, whether that is moving your portfolio forward with backend operations, or being prepared for a meeting with the Executive Director
      • You enjoy collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders who represent different segments of our community and economy 
      • You hold deep respect for families and students and know how to talk about our schools with dignity and respect and without perpetuating damaging stereotypes
      • You show great attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
      • You have exceptional writing and communication skills
