We are seeking a Lead Pricing Developer to drive the implementation of commercial insurance pricing models into production. This role sits at the intersection of actuarial science, software development, and product delivery. You will work closely with actuaries, underwriters, IT, and external vendors to bring technical pricing models to life in our production environment.
You will also play a leadership role in establishing best practices for pricing deployment, overseeing code quality, testing, and documentation, and potentially managing offshore development resources.
What you'll be doing:
- Own the technical implementation of insurance rating plans into our rating engine (hx), with a focus on performance, accuracy, and scalability.
- Translate actuarial models and pricing specifications into production-ready Python code.
- Collaborate with pricing actuaries, underwriters, and IT teams to define requirements and timelines for rating plan deployments.
- Establish deployment pipelines, version control standards, and testing frameworks to ensure smooth releases and strong governance.
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for the hx rating engine, developing templates, utilities, and reusable components.
- While direct development work will be required, additionally this individual will review and QA code written by offshore or junior developers; establish and enforce coding best practices.
- Lead or mentor a small team of offshore developers, depending on candidate experience.
- Help shape our future-state pricing technology strategy.
What we're looking for:
Required:
- 5-10+ years of insurance or actuarial experience, ideally in Commercial or E&S lines
- 3+ years of hands-on Python experience, particularly in developing, testing, and deploying production-grade applications
- Deep familiarity with object-oriented design, abstraction, unit testing, and version control workflows (e.g., Git)
- Ability to translate actuarial specifications into performant and maintainable software
- Strong communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
- Experience with Hyperexponential (hx) or other Python-based rating platforms, or building actuarial tools for production use
- Prior experience leading or working with offshore development teams.
- Familiarity with Git-based workflows, REST APIs, and cloud environments
