Caterpillar Inc. seeks Senior Engineer- Performance/ Simulation/ Application at its facility located at 14009 Old Galena Road, Building L, Chillicothe, IL 61523.
Job Description: Build significant, deep expertise in technical areas. Contribute to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs and problems. Perform complex analysis work, identify and resolve problems focusing on technical delivery. Work directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams and enhance general, and business skills. Communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions significantly impact product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability; negotiations with suppliers; leveraging new technologies; warranty; total cost of non-quality; costs; sales; and customer perception. Meet goals for cost, reliability, and performance, and manage multiple priorities. Keep up to date on changing customer needs as projects progress, stay current with new technology, and provide guidance and direction on projects to less experienced engineers, technologists, and technicians. Direct contact with products, machines, or components while working in the field or at customer sites or may have direct contact with suppliers and customers to develop processes or resolve problems. Evaluate products and processes; perform needs analysis and initiate ideas; perform product maintenance; keep up to date on new technologies or develop new technologies; communicate technical information to dealers, customers, team members, suppliers, and other units; support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, dealers, customers, and suppliers; and develop and maintain keen understanding of internal and external customers' needs. Develop data extraction/analysis, failure analysis and problem solving, application of simulation tools and methods, and practical application of theory and concepts. Develop and validate engine and aftertreatment control systems for diesel, dual fuel, and spark ignited natural gas engines. Must communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well employees in other units, customers, and suppliers. Telecommuting: 50% telecommuting permitted.
Requirements: This position requires a bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field, plus 5 years of experience developing performance, controls, or behavioral system simulations of heavy-duty: diesel engines, spark ignited engines, dual fuel engines, engine aftertreatment systems and subsystems or related occupation. Alternatively, employer will also accept master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field, plus 2 years of experience developing performance, controls, or behavioral system simulations of heavy-duty: diesel engines, spark ignited engines, dual fuel engines, engine aftertreatment systems and subsystems or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Classical control theory with Single Input Single Output (SISO) systems; (2) Control system development process including verification and validation process for the same through simulation, bench testing and in-application testing; (3) Product development experience using NPI and NTI process; and (4) MATLAB and Simulink with Control Systems Toolbox, Vector CANape, and GT-Power.
Summary Pay Range:
$115,856. - $165,840.00
