Job Description
As Audio Director, you’ll play an essential role at The Merry Beggars, producing top-notch, exciting, and bold sound designs for our productions. You lead the team that takes our award-winning scripts and actors’ performances and surrounds with the sound design, effects, and music that moves our audience’s hearts.
Because storytelling is at the heart of everything we do, you’ll learn how we use sound design to bring our stories to life - making them stronger, more engaging and more appealing for our audience.
As our Audio Director, you’ll manage our entire recording and post-production process. Working closely with the Creative Producer, Associate Producers, board operators, and a team of up to eight audio engineers and sound designers, you’ll ensure that our productions meet or exceed our standards of quality. You’ll help us develop and improve those standards, allowing us to grow. You’ll communicate the artistic vision of the company to your team of audio engineers, including professional expectations, processes, deadlines, and holding each team member accountable for meeting non-negotiable deadlines.
This role is for an extremely well-organized, detail-oriented, and mission-aligned individual with a proven track record of team collaboration, clear thinking and communication, and efficient project management of creative projects, particularly for audio productions.

Responsibilities
- Leads and manages a team of 8+ audio engineer contractors, all working remotely
- Assigns post-production projects to team members
- Holds team accountable to quality standards and deadlines
- Coaches post-production team and ensure consistent improvement of all team members
- Meets with Audio Drama Directors and Post-Production team members on each series
- Ensure that sound visions and scripts clearly and accurately communicate the audio drama director’s vision, while staying within The Merry Beggars’ brand
- Guide audio drama directors on how to achieve their vision through sound design
- Ensure that all final drafts meet or exceed TMB quality standards
- Turn around weekly final passes on ~75 minutes of audio
- Proof and provide quality control on all final series
- Document, maintain and develop post-production process
- Coordinate and oversee post-production meetings
- Onboard and train Assistant Sound Designers, Audio Reviewers, Board Operators, Music Designers, and Audio Assemblers
- Oversee file and folder management (Google Drive, Pibox, etc.)
- Manage Post-Production team contracts
- Collaborate with other departments (script development, casting)
- Participate in weekly Lead Team Meetings
- Meet non-negotiable deadlines
- Checks audience retention and download numbers in OmniStudio
- Reports to Creative Producer
Requirements
- Practicing Catholic with a solid understanding of Catholic teaching, history and culture.
- Shares Core Values and creative vision of The Merry Beggars
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experienced in sound design, Adobe Audition; plus if experienced with VSTs (especially Izotope RX and Nectar 3)
- Understanding of sound boards; ability to route to Adobe Audition for recording sessions
- Benefit if experienced with engineering recording and producing voiceover an asset
- Familiarity with voice acting, music, drama
- Familiarity with audio equipment and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with entertainment production pipelines
- Exceptionally well organized; able to maintain structure of complicated projects and systems
- Can manage complex production calendars
- Sensitive to creative dynamics in a team environment; able to create environment of trust and creative engagement while being candid
- Self-driven, without need for supervision or close management
- Ability and openness to learning new applications and software (Pibox, Slack, Adobe Audition, Zoom, Google Sheets, OmniStudio, etc)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts or field related to the entertainment or audio industries.
- Experience in entertainment production, music recording, radio, and/or vocal production.
- Experience with DAWs; adept at handling and editing audio inside Adobe Audition.
Benefits
Compensation and Hours:
- Hours per Week: 40 hours per week
- Pay: $65K-$85K, commensurate with experience and skill level
- Relocation assistance is available, if relocating for work.
- Candidates may begin this position prior to relocating.
