Job Description
The Director of Maintenance (DOM) is responsible for overseeing and managing all operations of Southern Sky Aviation Maintenance. The DOM will serve as the Lead Technician, ensuring that all maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with the FAA regulations, company policies and industry best practices. This role combines the hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership to drive operational efficiency and uphold the highest standards of safety and quality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Responsible for managing the maintenance department processes, ensuring regulatory, safety, quality, and company standard adherence while delivering excellent customer service.
• Responsible for communication for all maintenance activities to maintain clear expectations in a professional manner with internal teams and external customers.
• Responsible for all estimates for work to be performed.
• Responsible for communicating all change orders for work being performed.
• Responsible for the tool calibration program.
• Ensure that maintenance facilities and equipment are kept clean, organized for efficient maintenance workflow.
• Responsible for planning and scheduling maintenance, assigning resources, and monitoring work accomplishment for all maintenance projects.
• Ensure all maintenance is performed in an efficient and satisfactory manner and in accordance with OEM data and applicable FARs.
• Will work independently and exercise discretion and independent judgement in coordinating customer and company projects.
• Must possess the ability to perform aircraft maintenance, preventive maintenance, alterations, and maintenance tasks in accordance with OEM data and applicable FAR's.
• Must possess the ability to troubleshoot, repair, clean, service, inspect, modify, replace, and overhaul aircraft and aircraft systems using approved data to ensure airworthiness.
• Ensure maintenance operations are performed in the appropriate sequence (as determined by the appropriate maintenance data).
• Oversee all maintenance operations and personnel that all maintenance operations are conducted in accordance with best safety practices, proper PPE, OEM data, FAR's and company policies.
• Execute all required paperwork in conjunction with assigned normal duties.
• Use and operate ground support equipment, as applicable and if qualified, in a safe manner.
• Assist other employees in the training and performance of their job assignments through coaching, counseling, and guidance.
• Be flexible with schedule, Work evenings and weekends when job requires.
• Responsible for working with management team on budgeting and planning for departmental needs.
• Partner with customers to support their needs and resolve issues.
• Perform employee management task such as performance reviews and time off requests.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise 2-8 Maintenance Technicians
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must provide own tools to support daily job functions
• Prior Supervisory/DOM experience required
• Eight plus years aircraft maintenance experience on Part 23 and Part 25 category aircraft.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• FAA Airframe and Power plant certificate Required
• IA certificate preferred but not required
• Cessna / Textron Experience preferred
• 8+ years' experience in Maintenance Shop with 3+ years' documented supervisory experience
LANGUAGE SKILLS
• Language (read, write, speak, and understand English)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Must be able to work indoor or outdoor in all weather conditions with the possibility of high noise levels.
