Classroom Lead - Full Time

Hiring Range: $26.89 - $33.61 per hour

General Summary of Duties: The Classroom Lead assists with implementing one-on-one and small group intensive behavioral intervention therapy and tutoring to students with mild to severe behavioral problems, including students who may be physically and verbally aggressive, enrolled in the Day Treatment program. Monitors schedules, staffing, and regular scheduled and on-call work activity documentation. Provides ongoing behavioral, therapeutic, and academic support to students enrolled in the program. Provides mentorship regarding behavior management for program staff. Works with special education teachers to develop and deliver academic instruction. All staff in Madrona Day Treatment and Sequoia Program are considered "teacher/counselors:" caring adults who constantly engage with students to establish positive, healthy relationships.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Major Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Works on an in-depth basis with individual students' exceptional needs to implement intensive behavioral therapy and tutoring to selected students one-on-one or in small groups. Observes, monitors, and redirects the behavior of students within approved procedures.
  • Responds to and provides immediate, therapeutic interventions in crisis situations. Supports other treatment team members that are responding to crisis situations in the program.
  • Develops and uses behavior intervention plans, including incentives as positive reinforcement, in conjunction with the therapist, teacher, and other program staff.
  • Participates in consultations with parents and staff on behavior intervention therapy for students. Attends Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings to support the connection between educational goals and therapeutic interventions.
  • Prepares schedules for coverage in classrooms and other learning environments. Assembles instructional/therapeutic materials. Provides coaching and mentorship to other staff in the program on behavior management techniques, handling crisis situations, implementing plans for students, and coordinating with parents and other outside agencies such as school districts.
  • Provides interventions, lesson plans, and instruction when a therapist or teacher is absent.
  • Provides assistance with the planning and instruction of activities for students, which could include but is not limited to field trips, health and wellness classes, art, physical education, and other recreational activities. As needed, organizes and implements social skills and therapeutic groups with students enrolled in the program, including student-led groups when necessary. Assures the safety of clients by following health and safety rules. Some driving between locations and transporting clients may be required during the work day as needed.
  • Takes the lead on the Madrona Day Treatment kitchen facility, including supporting the kitchen inspection process and ensuring a clean and orderly environment that is well stocked to meet student needs. Takes the lead on coordinating the delivery of student meals with internal and external providers. Supports the ongoing operations of the program, which may include purchasing and organizing supplies for a student store.
  • Leads the implementation and delivery of state mandated testing, including but not limited to conducting pretests, coordinating the testing event, obtaining any devices, codes, and other login information from the districts to administer the test, making sure any necessary accommodations are in place for students, and administering the test to designated students.
  • Assembles developmentally appropriate instructional aids and activities to support the academic and therapeutic instruction matter being taught.
  • In collaboration with special education teacher, provides additional support with academic curriculum and content delivery to students enrolled in the program.
  • Provides therapists, teachers, and other program staff input on student performance, progress, and behavior. As needed, conducts academic progress monitoring for students related to their IEP goals.
  • Documents student academic and behavioral progress and performance to support teachers and therapists using the individualized education plan as a guide. Records information in formats that support further evaluations. Ensures all paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner. Assures the privacy of student information.
  • As needed, supports the treatment team in preparing materials needed to transition students in and out of the day treatment program. Attends transition meetings as appropriate.
  • When working with severely disabled clients, may be required to assist students with certain medical and hygiene functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, social services, or behavioral health field. OR Five or more year's relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Intermediate (minimum 3 years of job-related experience)

Experience working with children within the structure of an intensive, milieu-based program.

LICENSURE:Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration.

Per RCW 28A.400.303, employees of contractors with school districts that "have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children" must go through FBI fingerprinting.

Madrona requires a Food Handler's Permit, preferred for Sequoia Program.

Preferred Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)

Experience working with the Special Education population is strongly preferred.

Educational or classroom management experience preferred.

The capacity to work well with children and families.

Performance Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Awareness of or working knowledge of Cognitive/Behavioral therapy, Rational/Emotive therapy, behavioral modification, applied behavior analysis, and development theory is strongly preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
  • Communication ‑ Communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Computer skills ‑ Ability to operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier proficiently.

Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed productivity standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Able to assist in building positive working relationships with staff of all agency departments.

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting is required for extended periods.

Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the job duties, the employee is required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, talk, or listen. Peripheral vision is also required for this position.
