About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Business Analyst with strong knowledge of the life insurance industry, regulatory requirements, and business operations. This role is ideal for a self-starter who is equally comfortable analyzing business processes, navigating complex regulatory landscapes, and troubleshooting technical challenges. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that business solutions meet compliance standards and operational needs.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and document business processes and requirements within the life insurance domain, with a strong emphasis on regulatory and compliance factors.
- Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and IT teams to translate business needs into functional specifications.
- Conduct detailed research on industry regulations, compliance standards, and best practices to guide decision-making and ensure adherence.
- Identify and troubleshoot both business process inefficiencies and technical system issues; coordinate with development and QA teams to resolve problems.
- Monitor changes in insurance regulations and assess their impact on business operations and system functionality.
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and user acceptance testing (UAT), ensuring alignment with business goals and compliance needs.
- Support the development and maintenance of documentation, including business requirements, workflows, process maps, and training materials.
- Participate and lead QA function for projects/initiatives with Test case creation, Test data identification and preparation, Test case execution and validation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 15-20 years of experience as a Developer, QA or Business Analyst, preferably within the life insurance industry.
- Strong knowledge of insurance regulatory and compliance frameworks. (List out MEC, NAIC, Agent Compliance, other Value Chain, Death Master File and other regulatory and compliance related topics etc.)
- Strong Technical Knowledge of software development lifecycle.
- Ability to read code (COBOL, .Net, SQL and Control M), and work closely with developers to help research, debug and develop solutions
- Strong knowledge of term, whole life, universal life similar life insurance products
- Strong knowledge of back-office processes including agent help desk, policy services, and claims processing
- Demonstrated business acumen and ability to understand strategic and operational impacts.
- Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources.
- Proven experience troubleshooting business and technical I.T. issues in a collaborative environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present findings and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency with business analysis tools (e.g., Visio, Jira, Confluence, MS Office Suite).
Preferred:
- Experience with broad range of insurance related systems, including policy administration, agency management/distribution, claims, underwriting and compliance.
- Certifications such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, AINS, LOMA or knowledge of NAIC regulations.
