Job Description

As the Manager, IT Operations, Monitoring and Observability you will lead a team, responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability practices across our IT infrastructure and applications. This leadership role will ensure end-to-end visibility into system health and performance, enabling proactive incident detection, root cause analysis, and operational excellence.

In this role you will report to the Associate Director, Architecture Enterprise; and work a hybrid work schedule (two days in office, three days from home).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of monitoring and observability engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and collaboration.
  • Develop and execute the observability strategy aligned with organizational goals, focusing on metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting standards.
  • Oversee the implementation, scaling, and optimization of observability platforms and tools (e.g., Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, ELK).
  • Define and enforce best practices for instrumentation, monitoring coverage, SLO/SLA tracking, and anomaly detection.
  • Partner with infrastructure, DevOps, application, and incident response teams to ensure seamless integration and full-stack visibility.
  • Drive root cause analysis and post-incident reviews to continuously improve monitoring systems and reduce alert fatigue.
  • Manage on-call and alerting processes to ensure fast, effective response and reduced mean time to detect (MTTD) and resolve (MTTR).
  • Provide insights and reporting on system performance, uptime, capacity, and reliability to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with observability tool vendors and service providers.
  • Stay current on emerging trends and technologies in observability and AIOps to inform future enhancements.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Leadership: Proven experience managing technical teams with a focus on monitoring, observability, or site reliability engineering.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of observability principles, monitoring systems, telemetry pipelines, and operational analytics.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to design and implement a scalable observability roadmap aligned with business and operational goals.
  • Incident Response: Experience working within or alongside incident management and SRE practices.
  • Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Datadog, New Relic, ELK, OpenTelemetry, etc.
  • Performance Focus: Expertise in system health monitoring, alerting tuning, and root cause analysis.
  • Collaboration: Skilled in cross-functional coordination with DevOps, security, infrastructure, and application teams.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder observability initiatives.
