Case Worker - Samaritan Hospital

What you will do:

The Case Worker is responsible for providing services to victims/survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, stalking, physical assault, and other crimes, and to secondary victims of crime. These services may include: assistance with completing New York State Office of Victim Services compensation claims, crisis counseling, advocacy, and accompaniment through hospital emergency rooms. In addition, the Per-Diem Case Worker assists with taking calls and responding to crisis situations on the programs 24-hour hotline.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, supportive services to victims/survivors of crime including but not limited to crisis intervention, advocacy, counseling, and NYS Office of Victim Services compensation assistance.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team during acute and emergent response which supports victims/survivors through a trauma-informed, victim-centered model
  • Provide support to primary on-call advocates
  • Assist with staffing the programs 24-hour hotline (minimum of 1 full weekend shift per month, with opportunity for weekday overnight shifts).
  • Overnight, weekend, and holiday availability required

What you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or related field required.
  • Previous experience working with victims of crime and/or 24hr hotline services is highly preferred. Understanding and knowledge of social determinants of health preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation to meet with clients at hospital locations, and to attend required monthly meetings.

Sexual Assault Counselor certification by the New York State Department of Health is required for this position to provide crisis intervention, victim advocacy, and counseling services. (Note - if the colleague does not already possess this certification, it will be provided by the program at no cost).

Pay Range: $23.40 - $33.69

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
