The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for operational support, training, and supervising of the EVS staff in the delivery of EVS services performed in conjunction with, and under the direction of, the EVS Director.
This is a full-time salaried exempt position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervises Environmental Services Tech I, Environmental Services Tech II, and Linen Distribution.
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Maintains appropriate staffing levels by overseeing the employee schedule. Reviews and approves time and attendance utilizing timekeeping software under the Direction of the EVS Director.
- Maintains adequate material/supply by overseeing the procurement of supplies utilizing material management software.
- Maintains working relationship with EVS vendors.
- Assists the EVS Director in the review and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures. Trains and communicates with staff on new or changed policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with job functions and assignments to efficiently rotate or alternate jobs between Tech I/Tech II personnel based on their knowledge, skills, and abilities based on organizational need.
- Ability to fill In for EVS Tech I/Tech II as needed.
- Participate in staff selection, interviews, and onboarding ensuring training and development.
- Conduct performance evaluations for EVS staff.
- Works with patients, nurses, physicians, department leaders, and other professional and non-professional staff members regarding environmental services requests, infection prevention, service resolution opportunities, and other interdepartmental matters in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization's values.
- Conducts quality and safety inspections to ensure work meets or exceeds established standards demonstrating commitment in infection control, safety, quality, customer service, and delivering patient satisfaction.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
- Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
- Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
- Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Specific responsibilities include scheduling of all personnel, enforcing the organizational standards in conjunction with the EVS Director, monitoring supply inventory, equipment usage, troubleshooting/problem solving, orientation/training of staff, and customer relations to ensure a clean, sanitary and pleasant environment for patients and guests.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education:
Associates Degree or equivalent work experience preferred; High School Diploma required
License:
Washington State driver's license required.
Experience:
Three (3) years or more housekeeping experience in a healthcare hospitality, or educational institution preferred.
Two (2) years' experience in a supervisory position
Skills/Competencies:
Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, to include Word, Outlook, and Excel as well timekeeping, MDS, and materials management software.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Familiar with use of computers, telephone, intercom and radios. Knowledge of how to use cleaning chemicals and operate equipment including buffers, wet and dry vacuums, and basic knowledge of housekeeping techniques.
Organized, self-motivated and has the ability to communicate directions in a clear, concise manner.
Critical thinking skills: Seeks resources for direction, when necessary. Performs independent problem solving. Decision-making is logical and deliberate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Occasional climbing, crawling/kneeling, and twisting/turning.
- Ability to lift /carry up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent reaching, pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying, bending/stooping/crouching and repetitive movement.
- Continuous walking and sitting/standing.
- Ability to travel via automobile to Samaritan Healthcare locations and work related events.
Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
