Job Description

The Aggregate General Superintendent (Surface, Sand and Gravel, Pulverized, Resale, and Barge) is responsible for supporting multiple operations including sand and gravel operations, limestone surface mines, pulverized operations, barge operations, and resale yards across Jurgensen Aggregates, which includes hydraulic and mechanical dredging.

This role will provide support to multiple Superintendents, ensuring the safety of all team members, establishing and executing production and projects goals, and guaranteeing regulatory compliance is met.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Compliance:

  • Maintain safe working environments by ensuring adherence to safety protocols, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety and responsibility amongst all team members.

Operational Leadership:

  • Oversee the operations of various sand and gravel operations, limestone surface mines, a pulverized operation, a barge operation, and resale yards, to ensure safe, efficient, and productive mining and transportation of aggregate materials.
  • Supervise and direct mine operations, including dredging, extraction, processing, quality and transportation of materials.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding mining practices, safety, and environmental protection.
  • Lead, develop and recommend operational strategies to maximize productivity and minimize costs.

Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of multiple superintendents.
  • Foster a positive work environment, ensuring high levels of team engagement, morale, retention, and succession planning.
  • Identify personal and team development and growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with administration for support.

Production and Budget Oversight:

  • Understand daily operations, schedules, and production goals for each site.
  • Monitor and manage production efficiency and ensure goals are met within budgetary constraints.
  • Advise on maintenance, repair, and operation of hydraulic and mechanical dredges, as well as other heavy mining equipment, machinery, and vehicles to minimize downtime.
  • Report on production and financial performance, providing regular updates to senior leadership.

Continuous Improvement and Development:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, technological advancements, and equipment upgrades to enhance mining operations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and innovations to ensure operations remain competitive and compliant.
  • Actively participate in State and National aggregate associations.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 -10 years of experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Preferred experience in sand and gravel mining operations, with at least 5 years of experience overseeing dredging operations, including hydraulic and mechanical dredges.

  • Preferred bachelor's degree in mining engineering, geology, or related field.

  • Relevant experience may substitute for education.

  • Strong knowledge of sand and gravel operations, limestone surface mines, equipment, MSHA safety standards, and industry standards.

  • Additional experience in barge operations, pulverized operations, and resale yards is a plus.

  • Proven experience managing teams and ensuring a productive, safe, and compliant work environment.

  • Strong operational knowledge of aggregate production processes, equipment, and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work in dynamic and challenging environments.

  • Experience with Microsoft products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Ability to work in outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions, and occasionally climbing stackers, stairs, ladders, or equipment.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
