This leadership role reports to the VP of Cyber Defense and leads Verizon's Threat Management Center, focusing on Cyber Security Operations and Incident Response. The Threat Management Center (TMC) serves as Verizon's 24x7x365 first line of defense, actively monitoring and responding to cyber security incidents.
What we are looking for…
This role will primarily be focused on maturing the Security Operations, Insider Threat, Incident Response, Digital Forensic and Cyber Exercise functions. This role will work closely with technology partners, business stakeholders and other parts of the Cybersecurity organization, including the Business Information Security Officers (BISOs), various engineering and network security teams.
The leader will have a broad range of responsibilities within Cyber Defense and will be responsible for the strategy and evolution of the Threat Management Center (TMC). Further, the leader will be responsible for the oversight, mentorship, and continued development of the programs and teams within the Threat Management Center. The successful candidate will possess and develop strong technical and interpersonal skills and will have the ability to handle high-profile matters and to work under pressure with minimal supervision in highly matrixed and cross-functional environments.
Responsibilities include acting as the central point of contact and leading tactical and strategic components of the TMC and key underlying capabilities, to include but not limited to:
Overseeing the 24x7 Security Operations Center (Monitoring, Triage, Escalation and Containment)
Insider Threat and Data Loss Prevention Programs
Incident Management & Remediation
Digital Forensics
Threat Hunt
Cyber Exercise
Coordinating and supporting threat detection and escalations, including overseeing technology implementations and migrations, mitigating risk management and managing budget and headcount responsibilities for TMC.
Collaborating with internal and external legal and communication teams to manage the organization's reputation and public messaging during incidents.
Ensuring gaps in detections are socialized with Cyber Security stakeholders; this includes identifying dependencies, recommendations, and collaborating to mitigate threats.
Acting as subject matter expert in internal and external audit reviews. This includes producing and presenting artifacts and executive summaries to support the overall mission of the TMC.
Recommending ways to mature and advance the preventive and defensive capabilities of the TMC in partnership with Cyber Defense Engineering.
Presenting executive-level operational read-outs, metrics, and case reviews that accurately capture the effectiveness of TMC. This includes leveraging internal data, threat trends, and operational metrics to clearly communicate the Verizon landscape to senior executives, to include the Chief Information Security Officer.
Establishing enterprise-level KPIs, executing on long-term and short-term strategic goals, and ensuring proper communication and stakeholder satisfaction.
Directing the cyber exercise program, including tabletop exercises for Verizon Leadership, ensuring cyber incident preparedness.
Setting clear goals and team expectations to successfully achieve organizational objectives. This includes conducting performance reviews, check-ins and disciplinary action, as needed.
Attracting, retaining, and leading a team of employees by educating, developing and managing them to deliver strong results.
Promoting an environment of collaboration and individual accountability when it comes to problem-solving, decision-making, and process improvements.
You’ll need to have:
Minimum 10 years of experience in Cyber Security Operations preferably in financial, insurance or healthcare sectors.
Minimum 7 years of experience managing and developing technical & operational teams.
Have or can achieve Top Secret clearance.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and excellent written and oral communication & presentation skills.
Proven ability to develop talent and assemble a highly effective team
Highly collaborative with ability to articulate ideas and influence peers and senior leaders
Comprehensive understanding of cyber based adversarial frameworks including MITRE ATT&CK and Lockheed Martin’s Cyber Kill Chain.
Demonstrable experience with industry tools such as Cobalt Strike, Metasploit, Kali Linux, etc.
Demonstrable knowledge of large enterprise environments, network protocols, network devices, multiple operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux, etc.), and secure architectures.
Demonstrable knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure and Google.
Five or more years of practical experience in incident response, threat hunting, and digital forensics and table top exercises.
Five or more years experience working with: Security Information and Event Management (SIEM); Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR); Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR); and threat intelligence platforms.
Industry certifications such as OSCP, OSCE, OSWE, GPEN, GCIH, GWAPT, or GXPN.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more.
