Job Description

Structural Principal Design Engineer

📍 Location: Greenville, SC or Houston, TX
đź”’ U.S. Citizenship Required | PE License Required

Pay: $88.33/hour - benefits included 

Position Summary

Fluor is seeking a highly experienced Structural Principal Design Engineer to lead structural engineering efforts on complex EPC projects. This leadership role involves technical oversight, mentoring junior staff, solving high-level design challenges, and ensuring compliance across all phases of execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise structural engineers and designers within assigned project areas.

  • Analyze and recommend advanced structural solutions aligned with project scope.

  • Develop and review technical specifications, calculations, and design criteria.

  • Perform and validate structural analyses for foundations, steel, and concrete systems.

  • Coordinate design issues with project management, vendors, clients, and other disciplines.

  • Ensure all work aligns with the Project Quality Plan and meets schedule, cost, and scope baselines.

  • Support procurement and subcontracting through bid evaluations and vendor reviews.

  • Provide field construction support, including responses to RFIs and design changes.

  • Oversee key material quantities, staffing forecasts, and progress reports.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in structural design

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license

  • Working knowledge of federal (e.g., DOE), state, and local codes and standards

  • Advanced knowledge of structural engineering principles and discipline standards

  • Strong communication and technical leadership abilities

  • Proficiency in MS Office and CADD tools

  • EPC experience on large industrial or government infrastructure projects

Technical Expertise

  • Structural analysis of foundations, concrete, and steel structures

  • Wind and seismic design, dynamic analysis, and modeling

  • Software proficiency: STAAD, STAADPro, RISA3D, Mathcad

  • Intermediate understanding of blast design

  • Experience with 3D modeling and 2D drafting in a multi-discipline EPC setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with ASME NQA-1 nuclear quality standards

  • Strong knowledge of material availability and cost

  • Proven experience managing complex, large-scale projects

  • Field experience and project close-out participation

  • Industry experience with:

    • U.S. Department of Energy or federal government

    • Regulated nuclear infrastructure

    • Biotech, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical sectors
