A Brief Overview

The Coding Coordinator position is accountable for the tracking of clearinghouse edits and denials related to coding, working coding reports, reviewing patient coding complaints, as well as onsite support for coding questions and workflows. This position works in collaboration with Coding Leadership to improve coding workflows, answer coding questions and provide data/feedback to implement process improvement solutions and/or coding efficiencies.This position works to appropriately integrate operations, facilitate best practices, achieve efficiencies, and align with GRH's strategic plan while maintaining quality and customer service standards and ensuring the department is operating under GRH policies and procedures, and applicable State and Federal laws and regulations

What you will do

  • Serves as coding expert internally. Internal point of contact for internal (provider/staff) and external (patient) coding questions.. Coding vendor liaison/contact person. Tracks, works, and provides feedback on clearinghouse claim edits and denials; Tracks, work, and provides feedback on coding work queues and disseminates work appropriate amongst staff to accomplish team goals. Monitors key performance indicators for coding, such as DNFC, on-hold reports, corrections required reports, late charges, etc. Provides concurrent coding support.
  • Provider dashboard coding questions/tracking
  • Track, work and give feedback on pre-payment coding/documentation requests from payers
  • Medical Necessity, preauthorization and real time coding support to Patient Access and other areas
  • Works with Patient Financial Services and Revenue Integrity leadership/staff on implementing and tracking process improvement projects
  • Works in conjunction with Compliance on audits and necessary fixes to accounts

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required or
  • One Year Certificate from College or Tech School Health Information Management related coursework Preferred
  • 4-6 years experience in coding Required and
  • 1-3 years management experience Preferred or
  • 1-3 years coding software experience Preferred
  • Ability to work in a fluid environment and deliver results.
  • Knowledge to use electronic equipment and computer applications specific to the job.
  • Must be able to establish rapport and effective working relationships with physicians and hospital administrators
  • Proficient oral, written and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of laws, government regulations, CMS and agency rules.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Must have ability to work independently.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to position self as credible, proactive, effective, and trusted thought partner
  • Teaching others how to do something.
  • Customer service experience
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (United States of America) Preferred
  • Certified Coding Specialist American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (United States of America) Required or
  • Certified Coding Specialist American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) (United States of America) Required
