Job Description

Under limited supervision, performs responsible managerial work in the administration and clinical oversight for the assigned human services program. Work involves developing policies and procedures that govern the daily operational and administrative functions of this program, involving day programs for targeted populations. All services provided are driven by the needs of the clients. Positions in this class are responsible for coordinating and supervising the school's academic special education and related services programs. Subordinate supervisors may oversee staff planning and implementing the day programs by delivering clinical, therapeutic, academic, vocational, community-based and/ or residential services. Position reports to Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and plans for the delivery of overall program curriculum and services. Defines the program goals and objectives. Coordinate the utilization of human, materials, financial and other resources in order to meet program goals and provide appropriate services.
  • Supervises staff who plan, develop and implement the daily lesson plans and classroom activities. Oversees the development of academic and residential goals and objective for consumers. Ensures lessons and activities meet the needs of the consumers and support their IEP goals. Reviews the progress reports prepared by staff which documents consumer progress toward academic and residential goals and objectives. Coordinates modification to the consumers IEP.
  • Constantly monitors and evaluates the program operations and identifies and implements changes to accommodate client needs, staff needs and resources, building needs, and he effectiveness of services. Evaluates the total program effectiveness and ensures various program components (academic, therapeutic, residential, etc.) support and reinforce one another and meet all licensing requirements.
  • Directly supervises therapeutic staff and supervisors, who in turn supervise academic, vocational or residential staff. Responsible for coordinating and supervising the academic special education and related services programs. Performs a variety of administrative duties associated with supervising staff to include hiring, assigning work, developing performance plans, providing technical guidance and direction, evaluating work and ensuring the provision of training and professional development.
  • Develops the program in-service training plan and schedule and oversees the provision of identified training. Provides guidance and direction to staff in different situations. Conducts staffing meetings to identify program issues, staff concerns, new ideas, etc.
  • Develops and monitors the program budget; approves all expenditures and purchases.
  • Assists with the coordination and placement of clients in filling program vacancies
  • Works with others administrators to discuss common issues, problems and solutions and make operational decisions. Conducts focus groups to obtain additional information regarding program, services, needs, etc.
  • Participates in fund raising activities of the organization
  • Participates in committee work.
  • Response to inquiries, issues and concerns raised by the clients' families and guardians and the referring community agencies. Ensures clients services are being coordinated effectively and that clients are receiving needed services.
  • Prepares and/or review reports regarding activities, accomplishments, status and issues of assigned programs.
  • Advocates for students' rights.
  • Responds to and follows up on crisis interventions and incidents throughout the 24-hour period.
  • Develops new services as requested.
  • Markets Grafton services to consumers, their families and funding agencies.
  • Represents Grafton at community functions.
  • Develops and conducts probationary staff training.
  • Reviews professional literature; attends workshops, seminars and conferences in order to keep abreast of trend and developments in human services fields.
  • Participates in "on-call" rotation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Education/Special Education or School Administration.
  • Five-year Post Graduate Professional Virginia Teaching license with endorsements in at least one area of special education served by the program.
  • Five years teaching experience in special education and/or experience in some other capacity with individuals with special needs.
  • An Administration and Supervision endorsement or documented experience supervising staff for two or more years.
