Job Description
Job Title: Lead Physicist
Location: Newport News, Virginia, USA
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Industry: Healthcare (Medical Radiation Physics)
Visa/Work Permit Requirement: US Citizen or Green Card Holder only
Experience Required: Minimum 5+ years in Medical Physics with focus on QA, SRS, Gamma Knife
Overview: A leading organisation in the healthcare industry is seeking a Clinical Medical Physicist to join its advanced radiation therapy team in Newport News, VA.
This role is ideal for an experienced physicist who is ABR certified and has substantial experience in Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Elekta Gamma Knife Icon systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct physics consultation to radiation oncologists and attending physicians
- Design and implement treatment plans for SRS/Gamma Knife procedures
- Supervise and perform QA for SRS/SBRT simulations and treatments
- Coordinate imaging and planning with neurosurgeons and oncology teams
- Perform and manage regulatory and technical QA tasks across treatment equipment
- Operate and maintain advanced imaging, simulation, and treatment systems
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and professional regulations
- Actively contribute to quality improvement and problem-solving in complex patient cases
Technology Environment:
- Varian Edge LINAC with 6DoF couch
- Elekta Gamma Knife Icon (upgrade to Esprit pending)
- Eclipse 16.0 with RadFormation ClearCheck & ClearCalc
- Siemens CT Simulator
- ARIA, Mosaiq, Epic EMR
- Sun Nuclear QA systems
Required Qualifications:
- ABR Certified in Therapeutic Radiological Physics (or completed Part 2)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in clinical medical physics, specifically in QA and SRS
- Proven experience with Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery
- Hands-on experience with Elekta Gamma Knife Icon
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and QA protocols
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Nice to Have Qualifications:
- Experience with Elekta Gamma Knife Esprit
- Broader familiarity with multiple oncology software and QA tools
- A passion for collaboration and patient-centric care
