Job Summary:

Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks' Aquatics Division is seeking dependable and qualified individuals to fill these non-civil service, seasonal/temporary Lifeguard II positions for our upcoming 2025 Pool Season to begin in May of 2025 and end in August of 2025.

IMPORTANT: Applicants must attach the required certifications applicable to this position to be eligible. You may obtain information about acquiring the various certifications by contacting Baltimore City, Department of Recreation and Parks at 410-396-3838 or your local American Red Cross Office.

The selected candidates will oversee the activities of swimmers at one of Baltimore City's public pools to prevent accidents. Some of the duties include but are not limited to: provide aide, rescue swimmers in danger of drowning, administers CPR and/or first aid, inspects and maintains cleanliness of swimming pool facilities and surrounding area, and may give swimming instruction. In addition, Lifeguard II's may train, instruct, and lead subordinate lifeguard I's, and performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements: Minimum Age 16 (A work permit issued by the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation is required for those under the age of 18.) Two months experience as a Lifeguard.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Water Safety Instruction (WSI), Lifeguarding, First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) for Professional Rescuers issued by the American Red Cross or an equivalent certification.

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
