Job Description
Summary:
The Research Finance Manager is a critical member of the P1 Trials operations team, responsible for overseeing financial planning, budgeting, and management of clinical trial revenue across our site network. This role ensures fiscal responsibility and compliance while supporting the growth of P1 Trials' portfolio and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in clinical trial finance, site budgeting, and sponsor/CRO contracting within oncology or early-phase research environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
• Develop and manage site-level and network-wide clinical trial budgets, including start-up, per-patient, and pass-through costs.
• Lead financial reviews and feasibility assessments for new trial opportunities in collaboration with business development and site teams.
• Monitor trial financial performance, track revenue recognition, and reconcile payments against clinical milestones and enrollment targets.
• Coordinate sponsor invoicing and ensure timely collection of receivables in alignment with contract terms.
• Work closely with Contracts & Budgets, Regulatory, and Site Operations teams to align financial documents with protocol and operational needs.
• Support executive reporting on trial profitability, forecasting, and financial KPIs.
• Assist in developing pricing strategies and benchmarking tools for early-phase oncology trials.
• Implement systems and processes to streamline budgeting and financial workflows across the site network.
• Ensure compliance with federal and sponsor-specific regulations and financial guidelines.
• Liaise with accounting teams for audits, reconciliations, and month-end financial close related to research activity.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
• Proven experience in clinical trial budgeting, revenue cycle management, and sponsor invoicing.
• Familiarity with clinical research agreements (CTAs), clinical research budgets, Medicare coverage analysis (MCA), and FMV principles.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; able to present financial data to non-finance audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
• Knowledge of and thorough understanding of oncology clinical research.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of research and ancillary processes, practices and standards.
• Knowledge of group dynamics and ability to work effectively within a group environment.
• Knowledge of project management techniques.
• Ability to build and develop highly functional teams and to collaboratively lead professionals and successfully influence physicians, investigators, and senior management.

Travel
Travel required for this position includes overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical trial finance, with a focus on oncology or early-phase research strongly preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and
deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
None required.
Computer Skills
Knowledge of computerized information systems and skill in the use of computers including word-processing and databases. Ability to operate basic office equipment such as telephones, computers, fax and copy machines. Knowledge of specialized systems as they relate to research, including, Clinical Trial Management Systems (CTMS), Electronic Data Capture (EDC), Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and other systems. RealTime CTMS experience is a plus.
