As an Associate in Private Capital Markets, you will execute in-depth analyses to support new business development, transaction execution and the delivery of investment banking products and services to clients and prospects. This role performs extensive financial modeling, capital structure analysis, research and completes due diligence activities. The selected individual will work closely with client staff to advance projects, gather necessary information, convey complex financial modeling outcomes and present analysis results. In addition, an Associate provides training and mentorship to less experienced staff. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Perform extensive financial analysis including capital structure analysis, cash flow modeling, and sensitivity analysis to support junior capital / structured equity, minority equity, or growth equity capital raises. Utilize creative approaches to illustrate key concepts / messages to internal teams, prospects, and clients. Build advanced three statement financial models to assess financial performance, cash flow and sensitize different capital structures / solutions to achieve the client’s objectives. Leverage broad understanding of different business models, finance / accounting topics and sources of capital. Demonstrate strong understanding of private capital markets, including market trends, key structures, and key investors / players. Lead due diligence, research, analysis and documentation of potential and live transactions. Anticipate potential deal issues and pass concerns through to team members in real time. Research current and prospective client companies, comparable companies and transactions, and industries; monitor and research capital markets, trends and investors; update private capital markets databases. Develop, produce and deliver proposals and presentations to clients and prospects, which exhibit broad knowledge of IB product solutions and underlying components. Engage, with analysts, in the development of pitch materials that highlight the competitive advantage of William Blair. Identify improvements to processes and propose solutions to complete tasks more efficiently. Create relationships with clients and foster effective dialogue with finance and accounting staffs to facilitate efficient processes. Anticipate needs and challenges and provide seamless solutions. Act as "on the job" trainer for analysts, providing constructive feedback. Focus on improving the quality of analyst and summer intern work product. Ensure senior team knows the valuable contributions of all team members. Ensure all activities are in compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities as requested. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required. Prior investment banking experience required; capital markets or investing / lending experience is a plus. Advanced financial modeling skills required. Build detailed, fully-integrated financial models to construct financial projections and test their feasibility, analyze the impact of proposed transactions on capital structures, cash flows, debt service requirements, compliance with and financial covenants, and differences in GAAP and tax treatments, etc. Experience analyzing financial statements and related data to assess historical and projected financial performance for client companies and prospects. Required SIE Exam, Series 79, and Series 63 must be acquired within 150 days of employment. Detail oriented with strong analytical abilities. Effective leadership and coaching skills. William Blair’s Private Capital Markets (PCM) group is a team of capital raising experts dedicated to advising and delivering bespoke, non-control capital solutions to our clients. Providing advisory services to clients including both sponsor- and founder-backed companies across a wide range of industries and at all stages of the business lifecycle – early / growth companies; middle-market companies; and scaled mature companies. Whether a client is looking for growth capital, acquisition funding, shareholder liquidity, or to refinance debt, the PCM group leverages our deep investor relationships across junior capital, structured equity, minority equity, growth equity, and pre-IPO crossover investors to deliver creative, bespoke solutions that achieve our client’s objectives. The PCM group’s understanding and expertise in all types of private capital help our clients navigate opaque and creative financing markets on a daily basis.

As an Associate in Private Capital Markets, you will execute in-depth analyses to support new business development, transaction execution and the delivery of investment banking products and services to clients and prospects. This role performs extensive financial modeling, capital structure analysis, research and completes due diligence activities. The selected individual will work closely with client staff to advance projects, gather necessary information, convey complex financial modeling outcomes and present analysis results. In addition, an Associate provides training and mentorship to less experienced staff.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Perform extensive financial analysis including capital structure analysis, cash flow modeling, and sensitivity analysis to support junior capital / structured equity, minority equity, or growth equity capital raises. Utilize creative approaches to illustrate key concepts / messages to internal teams, prospects, and clients.
  • Build advanced three statement financial models to assess financial performance, cash flow and sensitize different capital structures / solutions to achieve the client’s objectives. Leverage broad understanding of different business models, finance / accounting topics and sources of capital.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of private capital markets, including market trends, key structures, and key investors / players.
  • Lead due diligence, research, analysis and documentation of potential and live transactions. Anticipate potential deal issues and pass concerns through to team members in real time.
  • Research current and prospective client companies, comparable companies and transactions, and industries; monitor and research capital markets, trends and investors; update private capital markets databases.
  • Develop, produce and deliver proposals and presentations to clients and prospects, which exhibit broad knowledge of IB product solutions and underlying components. Engage, with analysts, in the development of pitch materials that highlight the competitive advantage of William Blair.
  • Identify improvements to processes and propose solutions to complete tasks more efficiently.
  • Create relationships with clients and foster effective dialogue with finance and accounting staffs to facilitate efficient processes. Anticipate needs and challenges and provide seamless solutions.
  • Act as "on the job" trainer for analysts, providing constructive feedback. Focus on improving the quality of analyst and summer intern work product. Ensure senior team knows the valuable contributions of all team members.
  • Ensure all activities are in compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Prior investment banking experience required; capital markets or investing / lending experience is a plus.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills required. Build detailed, fully-integrated financial models to construct financial projections and test their feasibility, analyze the impact of proposed transactions on capital structures, cash flows, debt service requirements, compliance with and financial covenants, and differences in GAAP and tax treatments, etc.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements and related data to assess historical and projected financial performance for client companies and prospects.
  • Required SIE Exam, Series 79, and Series 63 must be acquired within 150 days of employment.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical abilities.
  • Effective leadership and coaching skills.
  • Committed to satisfying internal and external customers.
  • Ability to manage expectations of senior bankers, other deal team members, and clients while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
