The Justice Scholar Program Vera’s Justice Scholar program funds up to 10 New York City high school students for a four-week period in the summer. It is an educational program centered around the concept and practice of justice, and its aim is to draw the attention of students to questions of justice. Each week students will learn about different aspect of the criminal justice system, including its history and the aftereffects of mass incarceration. Students will be encouraged to think critically about what values they believe should be promoted in society and whether our institutions reflect those values. Finally, they will learn about the intersection of race, education, economics and the justice system. The goal of the program is to give students an overview of the criminal justice system and to learn about criminal justice reform through guest speakers, field trips, group projects and class lectures. It will also push students to think critically about the concept of justice and how this concept interacts with major issues in our society, such as racial bias and economic inequality. Finally, we hope the program will develop students writing and analytical skills as well as gain perspective about America’s justice system. Curriculum Overview Each week students will learn about a different stage of the criminal justice system. In the first week, students will learn about the history of the criminal justice system in the United States and about the rise of mass incarceration. In the following weeks, students will learn about life before prison (prosecution), life during prison (incarceration) and life after prison (release) in order to understand the entire chronology of incarceration. Program Schedule The program will start on Monday, July 20th and end on Friday, August 14th. Students will be present for courses, including field trips, Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Compensation Students accepted into the program will be compensated $340 weekly and may be subject to federal and state payroll deductions. The JRS team works across Northampton County and is based out of our Bethlehem, PA office. We serve adults who are diagnosed with severe mental illness and involved in the criminal justice system. Many of the individuals we serve are currently incarcerated in Northampton County. The program helps clients get involved in their communities, decrease hospital visits, decrease criminal behavior, shorten the amount of time spent in correctional facilities, and avoid future incarceration. As a Forensic Certified Peer Specialist, you will get to work with a unique population, many of whom are currently incarcerated, and greatly in need of services. You will use your lived experience to help clients achieve their goals, find stability, cope in healthy ways, and improve their overall wellness. This position is designed to provide support to individuals within the Northampton jail, subject to approval of the warden. Pursuant to that, the scope, criteria, and availability of this work is subject to change for the candidate in this role. Requirements Work Schedule : Full Time, 40 Hours weekly; Monday-Friday Key Responsibilities of Forensic Certified Peer Specialist: Collaborate with individual being served and case manager to develop strategies for identifying, achieving, and maintaining goals; Maintain positive working relationships, and frequent open communication with supervisor and team. Provide direct supports respectfully and with a person-centered approach; help ensure the highest quality of care to individuals in providing “help that makes sense.” Coach individuals to identify personal interests related to recovery and to use community resources (educational, vocational, social, cultural, and spiritual) that align with their interests. Job Description

The Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environment, and Physics (BiCEP) at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts is looking for qualified candidates to teach one section of Environmental Justice. This is an in-person course, running January through May 2026. The course runs Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (2 - 3:15 PM EST). This position is part-time.

Minimum qualifications include an earned Master's degree in environmental studies or a related field. College teaching experience strongly preferred. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States through May 2026.
