The Charge Nurse is responsible a safe and effective nursing care; assist in the operation of the nursing department according to the legal guidelines of mental health care in the State of Texas; to supervise staff activities according to the hospital's policies and procedures, while maintaining the hospital's philosophy; to support nursing staff in interpretation and implementation of policies, procedures and nursing standards of care. The Supervisor will utilize nursing staff effectively, assist with required scheduling, and staffing and assignments. The Supervisor will also provide direction, supervision and evaluation of staff and/or staff education as necessary. The Supervisor will also assist with conducting performance evaluations, progressive discipline of staff and other duties as needed. Location Outpatient Center in Lincoln Park- Deming Job Description General Summary of Position Responsibility: Primary responsibilities include conducting psychological evaluations and providing psychological treatment services to children and adolescents being seen in a clinical setting within the Pritzker Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health. Services provided by the individual in this position will include evaluations and provision of evidenced based treatment modalities including individual, family, and group therapy and may include participation in specialty care clinics. Additional responsibilities include teaching and supervising trainees, including students in the APA-accredited psychology internship program and post-doctoral fellows. Engagement in scholarly activities, including research, program development and presentation of findings at national conferences is expected. The applicant will understand and integrate the growth and development needs of children and adolescents as they affect the delivery of patient care. Essential Job Functions: Conducts diagnostic evaluations, assigns appropriate DSM and ICD diagnoses, and provides treatment for patients in the Pritzker Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health at Lurie Children’s Hospital. Treatment includes crisis intervention, individual, group, and family therapy as needed. May provide psychological testing of children and adolescents, including administering and interpreting objective or symptom-based questionnaire measures as patient needs and clinical focus area indicates. Serves as a team member, working collegially with others within their service area. Maintains appropriate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record. Writes letters, notes, and formal clinical reports on patient contacts. Communicates progress over the telephone and via the electronic medical record, as appropriate. Collaborates and consults with medical providers, schools, social service agencies as well as city, county, and state funding and placement agencies through oral and written presentation of clinical findings and recommendations. Completes case management duties including discharge planning, completion of the diagnostic evaluation and referrals to appropriate support services as needed. Participates in rounds, patient care conferences, diagnostic and treatment staffing team meetings, multidisciplinary case conferences, and discipline-specific team meetings. Provides training through direct supervision and teaching of didactic courses in the subspecialties of clinical child and pediatric psychology to Lurie Children’s, McGaw Medical Center, and Feinberg School of Medicine students, interns, and fellows in various disciplines. Engages in research activities related to program evaluation and their clinical focus area. Follows protocols and procedures of the Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health and Lurie Children’s Hospital. Collaborates with team members and department & hospital leadership in writing/reviewing program and departmental policies and procedures as needed. Works with team members to provide appropriate coverage for scheduled absences. Participates in continuing education events including hospital and department mandatory education courses and courses required to maintain professional certification/licensure requirements. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers, and others. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, SKILLS, and Abilities: A doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in clinical psychology with APA-approved internship required. If degree is in a related area (e.g., human development) must have completed APA approved internship. Completion of a one-year fellowship in clinical child psychology or pediatric psychology. Required licensure and/or certification: Must be licensed or license-eligible. Documented track record of academic productivity/potential, including peer-reviewed publications and grant applications. Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team. Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is currently recruiting for FT Charge Registered Nurses (12 hour Shift and rotating weekends) 7a-7:30p.

The Charge Nurse is responsible a safe and effective nursing care; assist in the operation of the nursing department according to the legal guidelines of mental health care in the State of Texas; to supervise staff activities according to the hospital's policies and procedures, while maintaining the hospital's philosophy; to support nursing staff in interpretation and implementation of policies, procedures and nursing standards of care.

The Supervisor will utilize nursing staff effectively, assist with required scheduling, and staffing and assignments. The Supervisor will also provide direction, supervision and evaluation of staff and/or staff education as necessary. The Supervisor will also assist with conducting performance evaluations, progressive discipline of staff and other duties as needed. The Supervisor will work with other departments and supervisors to ensure smooth coordination of services to patients for efficient admission/discharge/transfer process. The Supervisor will report to the Chief Nursing Officer.

Daily duties include

  • Works collaboratively with other medical staff and other patient care personnel in maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
  • Assures rounds are being completed on the units by completing audits once per shift.
  • This includes the nurses are rounding per policy and documenting they have done so.
  • Detect any safety concerns/issues that could result in injuries or other difficulties for patients and staff members and ensure that all patients on High Suicide and SAO have the red and purple stickers on Observation Round Sheet and the Nurses Note.
  • Completed critique of Code Blues and turns it into Nursing Administration.
  • Manage the nursing care for all patients on their assigned units during your shift and recognize any changes in patients' condition and respond appropriately Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment.

Requirements

Licensure: Currently licensed as an RN to practice, as issued by the Texas State Board of Nursing.

Education: Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program

Experience: 1 year experience in behavioral healthcare setting

Certifications: CPR/SAMA must be attained within 30 days of your hire date.
