JOB PURPOSE: The Nutrition Specialist is responsible for the implementation of nutritional service delivery and sanitation in accordance with program policies and procedures, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and federal, state, and local regulations. Communicates effectively and to appropriate staff and parents regarding meal service. Orders and maintains supplies needed for meal service. Adheres to classroom meal schedules and routines. Ensures facility is clean and well maintained. Maintains a clean kitchen/cafeteria area. Monitors kitchen/cafeteria for needed repairs and requests work orders. Ensures USDA documentation and recordkeeping are timely and accurately completed and maintained as required by all applicable regulations. Responsible for transporting and/or receiving meals from food service providers. Assists the children in setting the tables, serving the food and the sanitary disposal of unused meals. Performs cleaning and sanitizing duties such as washing dishes, utensils, equipment, counters, cabinets, chairs, and tables; along with trash removal, food preparation surfaces sanitation and food storage appliances and equipment cleansing.  Oversees and maintains inventory of food items, supplies and materials. Monitors and records the temperature of cold and hot food items to ensure food items are served at appropriate and acceptable temperatures. Food preparation, including attention to detail regarding children with modified diets and appropriate portion sizes. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Attention to detail. Ability to work well with individuals of all cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. SCHEDULE: Full-time (37 hours/week), Monday-Friday. POSITION SUMMARY: The Nutrition Counselor under the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer is responsible and accountable for providing optimal nutritional care to the Neighborhood Health Services Corporation (NHSC) patients through the assessment, training, counseling, and evaluation of nutritional treatment plans. He/she provides nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy integrated with the patient's medical goals. This individual will also promote health and safety to all patients through responsibilities that will include (but are not limited to), documenting the nutritional status and nutritional needs of all NHSC patients, consults regarding advance nutrition support, and developing or obtaining patient nutrition educations materials. The Nutrition Counselor will carry out duties as assigned in accordance with NHSC policy, while maintaining the standards of the dietetic profession, Joint Commission, and other licensing, accrediting, and regulatory agencies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1) Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counseling for NHSC patients. 2) Consult with physicians, medical case managers and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs, diet restrictions and medication regimen dietary requirements. 3) Advise NHSC patients on nutritional principles, dietary plans, diet modifications, drug-food interactions, side effects management and food selection and preparation. 4) Counsel NHSC patients on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life. 5) Conduct periodic medical nutritional educational sessions for the Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) and NHSC support groups. 6) Participate in /NHSC Department multi-disciplinary Quality Improvement team. QUALIFICATIONS: Education or Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree with major studies in food and nutrition. Licenses, Certifications or Registrations: Current NJ State Registered Dietitian. Previous Work Experience: At least two (2) years professional dietitian experience in clinical setting. Specific Skills or Knowledge: Must be familiar with and willing to comply with training and enforcement requirements for Joint Commission. Must be familiar with and willing to comply with training and enforcement requirements for HIPAA. Must be computer literate and have working knowledge of MS Word, Windows, and Excel. Must possess excellent oral, written, and counseling skills. Additional Responsibilities The Nutrition Counselor may be required to perform other duties as assigned or when necessary if such work becomes a permanent and regular part of the job a new job description will be prepared. The Director of Nutrition and Culinary plans, organizes, and directs the clinical nutrition and culinary services of the campus and its subsidiary services in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws for the overall operation of the culinary department. Ensures quality nutritional services are provided and that the department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. Provides leadership to create a pleasant dining experience for residents and guests. Ideal Candidate Must be a Licensed Registered Dietician (LRD) or Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) in North Dakota (Eventide will assist in obtaining a CDM, if the selected individual does not currently hold) Registered Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition Previous Long Term Care and/or Senior Living experience preferred, but not required Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and/or Dietetics preferred, but not required Essential Job Duties Operational Establishes and implements Nutrition and Culinary Services policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Maintains food productions, sourcing, and inventory standards to ensure the delivery of high quality meals to residents, tenants, families, guests, and staff. Initiates and updates nutritional assessments for residents/tenants, providing proper documentation. Develops individualized care plans in accordance with physician orders, facility policy, and state and federal regulations. Develops nutritionally sound menus reflecting recommended daily dietary requirements, while adjusting to the food habits, customs, preferences, and appetites of individual residents. Maintains records of recipes adjusted to a yield appropriate for the number of residents served and dietary restrictions of which the recipe does or does not accommodate. Prepares reports/records on departmental activities for review by the Executive Director. Meets with residents/tenants, families, and visitors to discuss any dietary concerns related to menus, complaints, etc. Maintains communication and information lines with internal and external contacts and contracts regarding all aspects of meal service provision. Assists with the planning of the Nutrition and Culinary budget for food, equipment, supplies, and labor. Makes adjustments in order to align with the approved budget or as directed. Responsible for coordinating staff and operations for catering functions. Coordinates operation of the campus coffee shop(s). Ensures a pleasant and calm dining atmosphere in all applicable campus settings. Compliance Monitors nutrition and culinary quality, safety, sanitation, and compliance with established policies, procedures, standards, and regulations Completes and updates department documentation as necessary for effective work flow and direction to staff. Maintains all Nutrition and Culinary Services records as designated by regulation and policy. Leadership Monitors and supervises all Nutrition and Culinary Services staff for quality, safety, sanitation, and compliance with established policies, procedures, standards and regulations. Prepares, maintains, and directs department assignments and creates and organizes work schedules necessary to do so. Evaluates staffing needs and maintains adequate staffing. Hires new employees as needed. Conducts periodic staff performance appraisals. Provides ongoing orientation and training of staff. Is responsible for disciplinary actions for Nutrition and Culinary staff and any terminations of employment. Terminations shall be reviewed by the Human Resources department and the Executive Director. Attends meetings and in-services and provides consultation to other Directors and staff in relation to the services provided by the Nutrition and Culinary Department. Holds and conducts staff meetings on a regular basis. Coordinates the activities of the Nutrition and Culinary Services Department with interrelated activities of the other departments to ensure quality resident care and optimum efficiency. Reviews achievements and discusses needed changes in goals and objectives. Participates on facility/department committees and task forces as assigned and requested. Job Description

JOB PURPOSE: The Nutrition Specialist is responsible for the implementation of nutritional service delivery and sanitation in accordance with program policies and procedures, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and federal, state, and local regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Ensures children receive meals and snacks according to USDA and performance standards.
  • Communicates effectively and to appropriate staff and parents regarding meal service.
  • Orders and maintains supplies needed for meal service.
  • Adheres to classroom meal schedules and routines.
  • Ensures facility is clean and well maintained. Maintains a clean kitchen/cafeteria area.
  • Monitors kitchen/cafeteria for needed repairs and requests work orders.
  • Ensures USDA documentation and recordkeeping are timely and accurately completed and maintained as required by all applicable regulations.
  • Responsible for transporting and/or receiving meals from food service providers.
  • Assists the children in setting the tables, serving the food and the sanitary disposal of unused meals.
  • Performs cleaning and sanitizing duties such as washing dishes, utensils, equipment, counters, cabinets, chairs, and tables; along with trash removal, food preparation surfaces sanitation and food storage appliances and equipment cleansing.
  •  Oversees and maintains inventory of food items, supplies and materials.
  • Monitors and records the temperature of cold and hot food items to ensure food items are served at appropriate and acceptable temperatures.
  • Food preparation, including attention to detail regarding children with modified diets and appropriate portion sizes.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with individuals of all cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

SCHEDULE:
  • Full-time (37 hours/week), Monday-Friday.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
