QUALIFICATIONS Advanced degree in Musicology, Ethnomusicology, or related discipline (Ph.D. preferred) Experience teaching courses at the college level that explore various topics in Western Art Music, especially those of the common practice period or later; and/or the music/music making of other cultures around the globe. Berklee College of Music invites applications for a Full Time Faculty of Music History in the Liberal Arts and Sciences Department. The Department, one of the largest at Berklee, serves students at both Berklee College of Music and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. It offers an innovative Liberal Arts and Sciences Program including courses and minors in the humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences. Berklee's Liberal Arts and Sciences offerings are designed to empower students to advance personal communication, engage in critical and creative thinking, and develop holistically as citizens of the world and informed artists.

Reporting to and under the supervision of the Chair of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the ideal candidate will have content expertise and be skilled in pedagogical practices that engage students in education that is meaningful and relevant to the times. Additionally, they will be student-centered and dedicated to the role of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the education of artists.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in Musicology, Ethnomusicology, or related discipline (Ph.D. preferred)

  • Experience teaching courses at the college level that explore various topics in Western

  • Art Music, especially those of the common practice period or later; and/or the music/music making of other cultures around the globe.

  • Possess content expertise in one or more of the following areas: the study of historical musicology; popular music in America, broadly defined; and/or non-Western musics

  • Record of creative scholarship/professional activity

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Command of technology to support profession work and advance teaching and learning

  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach courses in History of Music as assigned

  • Submit syllabi for all courses assigned

  • Attend Department meetings and contribute to the faculty community of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Professional Education Division, and Berklee

  • Engage in professional development to maintain and continually advance teaching skills

  • Engage in service to the profession

  • Attend College-wide events (e.g., Opening Day) and follow all other guidelines per the Faculty Contract Agreement
