Level II: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus one year of professional experience in conducting criminal investigations for a governmental law enforcement agency. Level III: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level II plus two additional years of qualifying experience. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies Level I: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of modern criminal investigative techniques; Oklahoma criminal law pertaining to crime, search and seizure, arrest, and rules of evidence; recent court decisions affecting law enforcement; public relations pertaining to investigative activities; of basic math; basic English, grammar, and sentence structure; accounting and business records; and basic elements of computers and usage of computer software. Job Description

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Officers are assigned responsibilities involving law enforcement duties in the Highway Patrol Division of the Department of Public Safety. LOCATION

Upon graduation employees may be assigned to any county in the State depending on the needs of the Agency.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be a citizen of the United States.

  • Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age but less than forty-six (46).

  • Satisfy the education requirements outlined below.

  • Register, pay a fee and successfully pass the Peace Officer Screening and Selection Exam (POSSE).

  • Create a personal account on the Guardian Alliance website. DPS HR will email qualified candidates an invitation to complete their profile in Guardian.

  • Applicant must successfully pass the following:

  • physical agility test

  • polygraph examination

  • background investigation

  • board interviews

  • psychological testing

  • medical/physical examinations, including drug screening

  • Employees are required to serve an initial 12-month probationary period.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (pursuant to 47 Oklahoma Statutes § 2-105)

Upon graduation from OHP Academy, graduates will receive their CLEET commission. Prior to receiving a commission, all such appointees shall possess an associate degree or a minimum of sixty-two (62) successfully completed semester hours from an accredited college or university as denoted by the U.S. Department of Education. Prior years of military or law enforcement service shall qualify as a substitute for the educational requirement, up to a maximum of thirty (30) semester hours, for any combination of the following:

  • ten (10) semester hours for each year of honorable service in any active military or reserve military service, or

  • ten (10) semester hours for each year the appointee worked as a paid, full-time, CLEET-certified law enforcement officer of a law enforcement agency within the State of Oklahoma, or

  • ten (10) semester hours for each year the appointee worked as a paid, full-time sworn law enforcement officer certified by a state peace officer standards and training agency as a peace officer in another state, or any officer who has been certified as a federal peace officer by a CLEET-recognized law enforcement agency.
