The Custodian (temporary) is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the College. Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture. Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments. Lock and unlock assigned buildings: secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights. Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed. Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs in areas within ten feet of buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment. Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools frequently. Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds. Launder cleaning rags and dust mops. Have essential capabilities in the following: Interpersonal skills; attention to detail, ability to read, follow, and comprehend directions; communicate effectively both verbally and written. Basic math skills with ability to calculate measurements. Attend to emergencies when necessary. Attend safety meetings and other related meetings. Take classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products. Handle recycling materials. Call in work orders. Assist in the instruction and supervision of student help. Assist with inventory control and security. Safely operate all vehicles and other job related equipment. Ability to perform occasional overtime and weekend work. Performs other duties as assigned. Custodian- Temporary Pay Status and Classification: Non-exempt, Temporary Supervisor: Team Lead Position Purpose: Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of office spaces and common spaces across campus. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Cleaning and Maintenance: Removes office and building trash. Washes windows, cleans showers, bathrooms, and public areas using wet/dry mop, vacuum cleaner, cleaning cloths and cleaning solutions. Follows safety instructions/procedures related to clothing, gloves, goggles, masks and use of cleaning chemicals. Cleans, strips and waxes tile and floors. Shampoos and extracts carpeting. Maintains vacuums and other equipment by making simple adjustments such as installing new vacuum bags and mop heads, moving equipment from location to location as necessary. Removes snow from entryways and walkways. Event Preparation Assistance: Assists with special events including but not limited to table and chair setup. Additional Tasks: Pitches in to assist colleagues when needed. Qualifications: Physical requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.), and stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time. Must be safety conscious, able to read, write and understand written and verbal instructions and work with a diverse group of staff and students. Ability to work on weekends may be required. During emergency situations will be required to work in the event of a personnel shortage. Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record for cleaning jobs that include weekends. Does not apply to part-time cleaning jobs.
