Shampoos carpets as needed. 10. Serves as Bus Monitor as assigned. 11. Drives bus to transport children to and from school, and on field trips as assigned. 12. Transports breakfast, lunch and snacks, as assigned and required, for meals provided under the CACFP program. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Lead Custodian and Maintenance Worker Job Description The Lead Custodian and Maintenance Worker will be a key member of the facilities team, ensuring the campus is maintained at a high standard of cleanliness and remains safe sanitary for children. This role combines hands-on custodial work with leadership responsibilities, including supervising and mentoring custodial staff, assigning tasks and ensuring that maintenance and cleaning operations are completed efficiently and to high standard.  The role is supervisory, but also the individual is expected to accomplish cleaning and maintenance tasks as part of the team. This is full-time (40 hours per week) and non-exempt position. The generally schedule is Monday to Friday 12:30-9:30pm, with occasional flexibility required for morning and afternoon shifts based on the needs of the school, plus some weekend overtime available during scheduled school events. ZEST Preparatory Academy is seeking a dedicated and reliable Contractual School Custodian to join our team as we prepare to open our K-5 charter school in Douglasville, GA, in August 2023. Our mission is to foster an academically rigorous, supportive, and joyful learning environment that nurtures the innate leader within every student, equipping them for lifelong educational achievement and meaningful community service. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean and safe environment conducive to learning as we build our community of up to 216 students across grades K-3, progressively expanding each year until fully enrolled. As a member of our team, the Contractual School Custodian will ensure that our facilities embody the values of dedication, respect, and responsibility, providing a welcoming atmosphere for our students, educators, and families while upholding the standards necessary for a thriving educational environment. Responsibilities Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, and dusting classrooms, offices, and communal areas. Maintain cleanliness of restrooms, ensuring they are stocked with necessary supplies and sanitized regularly. Assist in setting up and breaking down facilities for school events and activities as needed. Manage waste disposal and recycling procedures to promote environmental responsibility within the school community. Conduct regular inspections of school facilities to identify maintenance needs or potential hazards. Report any safety or maintenance issues to the appropriate staff for timely resolution. Foster a positive school atmosphere by exhibiting professionalism and promoting respect in all interactions. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Previous custodial or janitorial experience, preferably in an educational setting. Knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment, and safety procedures. Ability to follow instructions and operate cleaning machinery safely and efficiently. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring a clean and safe environment. Physical stamina to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Custodian II (Bus Driver)

SUMMARY

Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the buildings and grounds, ordering supplies, and minor maintenance of Head Start equipment by performing the following duties: 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

Primary

1. Cleans building daily. 

2. Sweeps and mops restrooms (sinks, water fountains and toilets included), cafeteria and halls daily. 

3. Empties trash daily. (No trash is to be left in the building overnight.) 

4. Keeps all cleaning products well organized, labeled and stored in locked storage area. 

5. Replenishes paper products in all restrooms daily. 

6. Cleans offices daily, to include vacuuming carpets and mopping of bare floor areas. 

7. Maintains facility landscape in accordance to agency standards. 

8. Strips, waxes and buffs floors as needed. 

9. Shampoos carpets as needed.

10. Serves as Bus Monitor as assigned. 

11. Drives bus to transport children to and from school, and on field trips as assigned. 

12. Transports breakfast, lunch and snacks, as assigned and required, for meals provided under the CACFP program.

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Incumbent must demonstrate a working knowledge of basic hand cleaning tools, carpet cleaner, scrubber, vacuum cleaner, and basic hand tools. 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to read, understand and follow instructions on use of chemicals and cleaning supplies. Employee must pass a pre-employment physical, TB test, and drug screening and submit to random drug screenings.  

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Incumbent must possess/maintain or obtain/maintain within 90 days of employment, a current CDL and valid state issued driver's license.
