This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO. Position Overview: As part of the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC) the Warfighter Simulations and Services (WSS) team offers opportunities to support the U.S. Missile Defense System through the development of Modeling and Simulation applications used in warfighter training and exercises, concept evaluation, developmental engineering, testing and verification, and assessment. The selected DevOps Software Engineer will design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support the Missile Defense Advanced Simulation (MDASim) project on the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC). In addition, this role designs, develops, tests, documents and integrates simulation products for MDASim using C++ and/or C# programming languages on Windows operating systems. Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a DevOps Software Engineer / Principal DevOps Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

As part of the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC) the Warfighter Simulations and Services (WSS) team offers opportunities to support the U.S. Missile Defense System through the development of Modeling and Simulation applications used in warfighter training and exercises, concept evaluation, developmental engineering, testing and verification, and assessment.

The selected DevOps Software Engineer will design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support the Missile Defense Advanced Simulation (MDASim) project on the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC). In addition, this role designs, develops, tests, documents and integrates simulation products for MDASim using C++ and/or C# programming languages on Windows operating systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Automate infrastructure deployment, scaling, and management
  • Monitor system performance and ensure reliability and availability
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve deployment processes
  • Implement and manage containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Ensure security best practices and compliance requirements are met
  • Maintain and enhance configuration management tools
  • Design and develop software to model various missile and air defense capabilities and concepts
  • Assist in the development of simulation and software architectures
  • Candidate may be responsible for leading development of an agile software feature team within the context of a larger team (Level 3)
  • Additional responsibilities could include interfacing with MDASim customers and presenting technical briefings to MDASim stakeholders (Level 3)

Basic Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a DevOps Software Engineer or a Principal DevOps Software Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications for DevOps Software Engineer or Principal DevOps Software Engineer:

  • DevOps Software Engineer: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of experience.
  • Principal DevOps Software Engineer: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years experience, or a PhD and 1 years of experience.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application and is required to start.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs
  • Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar software engineering role
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins, or GitLab CI
  • Working knowledge of version control systems such as Git
  • Understanding of networking concepts and security best practices
  • Experience developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as C, C++, or Java

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
  • Experience in software development, including analysis, design, code, test and integration
  • Strong, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and customer personnel
  • Experience in engineering M&S systems using an optimistic and/or conservative discrete event simulation platform
  • Knowledge or experience in several of the following: missile defense domain knowledge, command and control, and modeling and simulation development.
  • Experience in agile software development methodologies like Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience with JIRA and GIT
  • Knowledge of databases and SQL

Salary Range: $81,300.00 - $121,900.00Salary Range 2: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
