Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program acts as the integrating element of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the progression of the battle, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats of all ranges at every phase of flight. C2BMC serves as a force multiplier, globally and regionally networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to enhance performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a vital component of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system. The selected candidate will assist the C2BMC DevSecOps team and the Authorization and Assessment team in developing and deploying Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) capability for C2BMC Security Tools. Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer DevOps - DevSecOps Engineer (25-278) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position, located in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a crucial role in supporting the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program acts as the integrating element of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the progression of the battle, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats of all ranges at every phase of flight. C2BMC serves as a force multiplier, globally and regionally networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to enhance performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a vital component of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.

The selected candidate will assist the C2BMC DevSecOps team and the Authorization and Assessment team in developing and deploying Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) capability for C2BMC Security Tools.

Essential Functions:

  • Will assist with system administration across multiple environments, software deployment, troubleshooting, and automation in a DevSecOps environment for a critical customer program

  • Utilize the leading DevOps practices and tools, including:

  • Hashicorp Tools

  • Gitlab CI/CD

  • Ansible Tower

  • Nexus Pro

  • Address systems administration issues involving hardware and software across various network environments

  • Support the implementation of custom software solutions that integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), government off-the-shelf (GOTS), and in-house developed software

  • Suggest enhancements to the system administration process to reduce overall maintenance needs by working with the design team and manufacturers

  • Determines system requirements, input/output processes, and operating parameters for hardware/software compatibility and system configuration maintenance

  • Identifies, analyzes, and addresses program support deficiencies

  • Proposes and suggests corrective actions

  • May offer technical guidance to database administrators and software developers

  • 3-5 years' experience with continuous integration environments in Network, Software, or platform infrastructure capability automation, development, and deployment

  • Experience with Linux/UNIX or Windows system administration

  • Experience with a shell scripting language (e.g., Python, Powershell, etc.)

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline is preferred from an accredited university, accompanied by 8 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related discipline with 6 years of experience; or 12 years of related experience may be considered instead of a degree

  • Applicants must possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is necessary to start

  • DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+ CE, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA Security, etc.) is required to start

  • Experience with:

  • CI/CD best practices

  • Automated builds and tests

  • Quality gates

  • Software quality

  • CI tools, i.e., Gitlab CI

  • Experience with configuration management tools, i.e., Nexus, Gitlab

  • Familiarity with branching strategies, gated commits, and source-controlled management

  • Familiarity with the principle of DevSecOps

  • Atlassian JIRA or other defect tracking tool experience

  • Atlassian Confluence, GitLab/GitHub, Jenkins, and Nexus repository experience

  • Familiarity with security coding standard best practices, static and dynamic scanning tools, i.e., SonarQube, Fortify, Coverity, PCLint, etc.

  • Experience with programming and scripting in a UNIX environment:

  • Programming and scripting experience in a Windows environment

  • Ensure the efficient and effective verification, evaluation, implementation, update, and maintenance of the Information System Configuration Compliance baseline by using:

  • Program Guidance

  • Vendor Guidance

  • Has a working knowledge of:

  • ACAS (Tenable.sc / Tenable Nessus)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automation/configuration management using Ansible, GitLab, Nexus, or other equivalent technology
  • Experience with developing formal builds within the DoD industry

Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $187,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
