The Manager, Cloud Platform Services position is responsible for leading and managing the Senior DevOps Engineering function within Venerable’s Technology Service’s cloud environment. This position provides leadership and direction to high-level professional staff within our Cloud, DevOps, and Identity functions. This position executes on a defined business plan to fulfill the IT department strategies and is expected to display measured and professional communication skills across a variety of audiences and situations. Our ideal candidate will have experience in the Financial Services industry. Primary Responsibilities: Leads the DevOps Senior Engineers Tower within Venerable including people, process, and technology. Establishes standards, maintains operational processes, and ensures delivery of Platform Services, including: - AWS Cloud (EC2, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, Route53, IAM, EventBridge, CloudWatch, EKS, ECR, SNS, SQS, Glue, CFT, SAM) - CI/CD Tooling (GitHub, Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, Ansible) - Issue Tracking and Project Management via tooling such as Jira and Agility AI in support of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and etc… - Application Deployment and Automation in accordance with Venerable Standards. Executes business plans and contributes to the development of functional strategies. Applies broad industry and commercial awareness to drive financial and operational performance across a single function Works with internal staff and Service Providers to ensure Venerable is achieving all operational based SLAs. Participates in resourcing for operational and project-based work. Responsible for Security and Audit Remediation within function. Works with vendors to ensure value is being driven out of their products and services. Maintain control of infrastructure spending: forecasting usage-based spend in cloud platforms, long-term infrastructure asset spending, and accounting for project spend and unexpected cost anomalies. Develops and maintains operational processes to ensure timely decommissioning of cloud resources with minimal risk. Ensures currency of infrastructure components. Work with security architecture and security engineering teams to ensure infrastructure is integrated with security platforms (logging, EDR, vulnerability/configuration management, etc). Follows all IT Service Management requirements and processes. Recruits, motivates, and develops a superior team of technology experts. Researches and implements best practices and fosters a culture of continuous improvement. Exercises sound decision-making concerning hiring, performance improvement plans/reviews, promotions, salary recommendations and terminations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Models superior communication and negotiation skills; writes and speaks clearly and concisely; presents ideas understandably and persuasively; uses appropriate channels for audience and subject matter; able to consume and share information at multiple levels, from detailed technical directions to high level business concepts. Job Description

The Manager, Cloud Platform Services position is responsible for leading and managing the Senior DevOps Engineering function within Venerable’s Technology Service’s cloud environment. This position provides leadership and direction to high-level professional staff within our Cloud, DevOps, and Identity functions. This position executes on a defined business plan to fulfill the IT department strategies and is expected to display measured and professional communication skills across a variety of audiences and situations. Our ideal candidate will have experience in the Financial Services industry. We are open to hiring for this role at either our West Chester, PA or Des Moines, IA location.PLEASE NOTE: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads the DevOps Senior Engineers Tower within Venerable including people, process, and technology. Establishes standards, maintains operational processes, and ensures delivery of Platform Services, including:

- AWS Cloud (EC2, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, Route53, IAM, EventBridge, CloudWatch, EKS, ECR, SNS, SQS, Glue, CFT, SAM)

- CI/CD Tooling (GitHub, Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, Ansible)

- Issue Tracking and Project Management via tooling such as Jira and Agility AI in support of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and etc…

- Application Deployment and Automation in accordance with Venerable Standards.

  • Executes business plans and contributes to the development of functional strategies.
  • Applies broad industry and commercial awareness to drive financial and operational performance across a single function
  • Works with internal staff and Service Providers to ensure Venerable is achieving all operational based SLAs.
  • Participates in resourcing for operational and project-based work.
  • Responsible for Security and Audit Remediation within function.
  • Works with vendors to ensure value is being driven out of their products and services.
  • Maintain control of infrastructure spending: forecasting usage-based spend in cloud platforms, long-term infrastructure asset spending, and accounting for project spend and unexpected cost anomalies.
  • Develops and maintains operational processes to ensure timely decommissioning of cloud resources with minimal risk.
  • Ensures currency of infrastructure components.
  • Work with security architecture and security engineering teams to ensure infrastructure is integrated with security platforms (logging, EDR, vulnerability/configuration management, etc).
  • Follows all IT Service Management requirements and processes.
  • Recruits, motivates, and develops a superior team of technology experts.
  • Researches and implements best practices and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Exercises sound decision-making concerning hiring, performance improvement plans/reviews, promotions, salary recommendations and terminations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Models superior communication and negotiation skills; writes and speaks clearly and concisely; presents ideas understandably and persuasively; uses appropriate channels for audience and subject matter; able to consume and share information at multiple levels, from detailed technical directions to high level business concepts. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or related field is preferred. 
  • 7+ Years progressive responsibility within Information Technology 
  • 5+ Years progressive responsibility working with an Infrastructure Focus 
  • 3+ Years working in a cloud environment  
  • Experience in Financial Services is preferred 
  • Previous experience managing people is preferred
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS EKS
  • Solid understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and AWS Microservices architecture
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch).
  • AWS Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect and DevOps Engineer is preferred
  • Experience leveraging SDLC Practices
  • Understanding of common security frameworks and regulatory requirements and how they apply to infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure hardening principles, secure configuration baselines, and access control best practices.
  • Ability to interpret, prioritize, and act on findings from penetration tests, vulnerability scans, and security audits.
  • Broad Experience working within a Fully Cloud Environment
  • Demonstrated success in successful execution of multiple major projects or a sustained record of success delivering complex IT services to a diverse clientele.
  • Possesses expert conflict resolution skills. Employs a collaborative, fact-based approach and the ability to support and articulate decisions.
  • Ability to effectively coach and develop staff
  • Ability to lead through times of change
