About The Opportunity
As the Platform Modeling Manager within the Machine Learning and AI group, you will lead the team responsible for core models that underpin much of our platform. This includes forecasting and other predictive models, along with experimentation and causal inference. The team supports modeling efforts across Wonder Group, including Grubhub, Wonder restaurants, and Blue Apron.
This pivotal role demands a leader who can drive our data science strategy. You will lead a skilled team to develop advanced analytical models that provide critical system inputs, while also providing business insights through rigorous data analysis. You will guide your team from ambiguous problem statements to context-driven, actionable solutions, working in close collaboration with Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders.
The Impact You Will Make
Technical & Modeling Leadership
Oversee the design, development, and implementation of advanced statistical and machine learning models and algorithms to solve complex business problems within the delivery ecosystem
Guide the team in conducting exploratory data analysis and applying quantitative techniques to derive actionable insights and recommendations that drive business value
Define and enforce strong software architecture and development best practices, ensuring the team builds, owns, and maintains scalable, reusable services, features, and components
Monitor the health of the production models, utilizing metrics, observability, and logging tools
Team Management & Strategy
Lead, inspire, and grow a diverse team of data scientists, providing mentorship, career planning, and constructive feedback
Collaborate with senior leadership to define and execute Wonder’s data science and engineering strategy, aligning roadmaps and timelines with core business goals
Craft a meaningful technical vision for the team, working closely with product and engineering teams to lead ML and AI vision and cross-functional initiatives
Lead the team's agile ceremonies, positively influencing the planning, refinement, and execution of goals in a rapid development environment
Act as a trusted advisor to business partners, providing strategic guidance and thought leadership on data-driven decision-making
What You Bring to the Table
Management & Experience
3+ years of management experience leading and motivating a team of data scientists or software engineers, including mentorship and career planning
6+ years of software engineering or related experience
Proven track record of leading technical teams in a fast-paced, Agile environment, managing multiple priorities and deliverables simultaneously
Experience in a self-directed role, responsible for end-to-end deliverables, and a history of advocating for strong data science standards
Technical Expertise
Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
Expertise in machine learning, statistical analysis, and data mining techniques
Strong proficiency in key programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL
Proficiency with big data technologies, e.g. dbt, Apache Spark, Ray or similar
Experience dealing with production runtime constraints and trade-offs
Strong fundamentals in statistics and data structures
Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with distributed computing systems
Ability to debug production issues using observability and logging tools
Communication & Leadership
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to actively listen and effectively collaborate with product management and cross-functional teams
Ability to translate complex technical concepts, findings, and insights into clear, actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership
Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome—and encouraged—to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.

New York: $240,000 - $249,500 per year.
Illinois: $216,000 - $224,500 per year.
Wonder uses geographic-specific salary structures, which means the salary offered may vary depending on where the job is located. The final salary offer will take into account various factors, such as the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience.
