Specific Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of an assigned engineer or experienced designee, the Data Science Engineering Intern T will: Architect and build a smart, structured metadata layer that enables faster, more accurate access to quality control data. Develop AI/ML tools that identify and tag important data attributes-such as supplier names, part numbers, spec limits, and inspection parameters. * Assist in the creation of a metadata system and chat user interface that enables fast, intuitive querying and analysis via RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation). * Parse and clean structured and unstructured datasets work with AI tools such as OCR and intelligently convert spreadsheets to fit a single architecture. * Resolve inconsistencies across data and build schemas for Vector DB.* Adhere to the Company's Quality Management System (QMS) as well as domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures. * Understand relevant security, privacy and compliance principles and adhere to the regulations, standards, and procedures that are applicable to the Company. * Ensure other members of the department follow the QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures. * Perform other work-related duties as assigned. Medical Science Liaison, Oncology (Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, & Thoracic Focus)- Southern California Responsibilities: Scientific Experts (SEs) have special needs for in-depth and cutting-edge information, because these health care professionals design and implement novel research and educate colleagues and students. The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) program is specifically designed to meet these needs through a field-based group of medical professionals with deep content knowledge about Lilly and competitor products and current issues in the oncology therapeutic areas they represent, which would primarily include our breast/gynecologic oncology portfolio. The MSL also gathers feedback and insights from SEs, to better inform Lilly's research and potentially influence overall strategic direction of the company. By providing answers that matter and facilitating scientific exchange between industry and the academic community, the MSLs have the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare with needed information that addresses important clinical and scientific questions. Develop mutually beneficial relationships with external clients and internal business partners: The MSL will spend between 70-80% of their time devoted to developing relationships and interfacing with external clients- SEs/educators/investigators- within a defined geography. The MSL will serve as the major representatives of Lilly for these health care professionals, providing deep and advanced disease state and product information as well as facilitating the work of the SE when it aligns with Lilly's mission. General Summary

The Data Science Engineering Intern T will work on project opportunities that are designed to develop professional work knowledge and the abilities to support the efforts and projects that have global importance to the success of the business. The work involves transforming information that currently lives in disconnected PDFs, spreadsheets, and other various forms into a searchable, intelligent metadata system to streamline Engineering analysis, and enable new ways for data analysis. With direction from experienced engineers and access to a collaborative technical team, this role will also work on a portfolio project that showcases technical depth and UX to architect internal enterprise ML that will accelerate innovation cycles.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of an assigned engineer or experienced designee, the Data Science Engineering Intern T will:

  • Architect and build a smart, structured metadata layer that enables faster, more accurate access to quality control data.
  • Develop AI/ML tools that identify and tag important data attributes-such as supplier names, part numbers, spec limits, and inspection parameters. *
  • Assist in the creation of a metadata system and chat user interface that enables fast, intuitive querying and analysis via RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation). *
  • Parse and clean structured and unstructured datasets work with AI tools such as OCR and intelligently convert spreadsheets to fit a single architecture. *
  • Resolve inconsistencies across data and build schemas for Vector DB.*
  • Adhere to the Company's Quality Management System (QMS) as well as domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures. *
  • Understand relevant security, privacy and compliance principles and adhere to the regulations, standards, and procedures that are applicable to the Company. *
  • Ensure other members of the department follow the QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures. *

Required Qualifications

Minimum education and experience

  • Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science or related field.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with Python and common data libraries (pandas, NumPy, etc.). Experience with Azure ML is a plus.
  • Interest or background in machine learning, NLP, or ETL data modeling is a plus.
  • Comfortable working with large and unstructured datasets.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Resourceful and security-driven development practices with strict adherence to industry data compliance. (HIPAA, SOC2, etc.)
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills are required.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and other standard office tools.
